Versatile PAK line features eight machine sizes with performance-matching of screw and gearbox
August 2005 — Affordability, application customization and quick installation make Akron Milacron PAK single-screw extruders proven packaged solutions to processing rigid and flexible PVC, PE, PP and many other materials for a wide range of custom profile and sheet applications. Eight models sizes from 2 to 10 in. screw diameter can be performance-matched with choice of flame-hardened, chrome-plated screws engineered to specific applications and four gear box/torque selections.
PAK extruders are ideal for efficient extrusion of custom shapes, sheet, automotive moldings, wiring harnesses, wire and cable jacketing, medical tubing and other health-care applications.
PAK extruders come completely assembled, pre-wired and tested for fast installation, dependable performance and easy maintenance. Quick-install PAK extruders are ready to run after simply pulling power, connecting water and drain lines and leveling.
Reliance AC vector drives are standard on each PAK model, and can be coupled with one of four available gear boxes of varying torque ratings to suit capacity requirements. A unique drive sleeve insert accepts nearly any style screw shank, speeding integration into existing operations.
An air-cooled, 24:1 L/D bimetallic barrel with rupture disc also is standard equipment. Rugged, reinforced frames maintain proper barrel alignment, minimizing screw and barrel wear.
The superior, user-friendly design of the PAK line allows easy access to barrels and heaters without removing the hopper, and a 4-bolt swing gate enables quick tooling changeover. Extruded aluminum heaters are provided for longer life, and ammeters monitor each heating zone for burnout. Digital instrumentation, including a melt temperature indicator, allow easy setting and readout capabilities. A large, cast-in water jacket in the feed throat provides efficient cooling.
For operations requiring greater horsepower, the PAK 350 (3.5 in. screw) extruder features a 100-HP DC drive and a reducer rating of 220 HP at 125 RPM screw speed (AGMA II). More rigorous processing operations can utilize the larger PAK 450 (4.5 in. screw) extruder which is designed for compounding, sheet, profile and scrap reclaim. A low-boy model for brown film also is available.
The PAK series of single-screw extruders is backed by Milacron's total package of sound technical expertise, service and support. All PAK 200, 250, 350 and 450 machines have undergone the most stringent, detailed inspection and testing.
