Schottky Diodes extend battery life in portable electronics.

Press Release Summary:

Supplied in 0.4 mm-high SOD923 package, models BAS70SL, BAS40SL, and RB751SL offer space- and energy-efficient solutions for portable electronics applications such as cell phones, PDAs, and digital cameras. RoHS-compliant products, which feature low forward drop (VF) of 380 mV, utilize Pb-free terminals and are characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with lead-free reflow requirements of joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020.

Original Press Release:

Fairchild Semiconductor's Schottky Diodes Extend Battery Life and Save Space in Portable Applications

Schottky Diodes in SOD923 Packaging are 50 Percent Smaller than Diodes Packaged in SOD523

San Jose, California - March 26, 2008 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) introduces a series of Schottky diodes that are energy and space efficient, addressing the needs of space-constrained, power-hungry portable applications. The BAS70SL, BAS40SL, and RB751SL feature an extremely low forward drop (VF) of 380mV, which is instrumental in extending battery life. Power conservation is a critical design benefit for power-rich functionalities in portable applications such as cell phones, PDAs and digital cameras. To further accommodate the needs of portable applications, these Schottky diodes are housed in an ultra-compact SOD923 package that features one of the industry's lowest package heights (0.4mm) and are 50 percent smaller than comparable diodes in SOD523 packaging.

"Portable applications continue to move to smaller and thinner geometries and need to conserve battery life. Our Schottky diodes offer a space and energy-efficient solution for this design challenge," says Bill Vann, SDT product line marketing manager.
This series of Schottky diodes are part of a comprehensive portfolio of diodes, including bridge rectifiers, Zener, TVS and SS diodes that continue to address the size, efficiency and performance needs of today's electronics.

The BAS70SL, BAS40SL, and RB751SL utilize lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. All of Fairchild's products have been designed to meet the requirements of the European Union's Directive on the restriction of the use of certain substances (RoHS).
