ARINC Launches New AviTextSM SMS Service with Mobile Cellular Access for Type B Messages

Annapolis, Maryland, USA, August 4, 2008-Airlines and other enterprises that rely on industry-standard Type B messaging for their mission-critical communications can now give employees access to Type B messaging right in their pockets.

ARINC today announced a hybrid SMS service-AviTextSM-that allows Type B users to send and receive important messages on a cellular phone, BlackBerry(TM), or similar personal wireless devices. The new AviText technology delivers SMS text from cellular devices to the Type B network, and from Type B back to the cellular devices.

AviText service leverages the SMS ability of cellular devices with simple Type B message templates developed for ARINC's global AviNet MailSM service. Businesses can eliminate tedious Type B paperwork while their personnel stay connected anywhere cellular service is available.

"This is revolutionary-we expect AviText messaging will quickly become an industry standard because all commercial pilots and operations personnel, corporate aviation personnel, and thousands of travel-related businesses really do need portable Type B capability," stated Jeannine Hendricks, ARINC Senior Program Manager for AviText. "AviText lets subscribers access their business partners world-wide, even if there is no Internet connection available."

Customers who have tested the AviText service are enthusiastic. Borseen Oushana, Director of Airport Services at Hilltop Aviation, said "This capability is clearly an asset to our operations and it pays for itself with better efficiency."

ARINC's new AviText message service is priced on a per-message basis that is very competitive with the industry. Customers may subscribe by contacting an ARINC representative at 1-800-633-6882.
