MaxLite's DLC-qualified Recessed Troffer Retrofit Kits Offer Seamless Switch to LED Lighting

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. -- MaxLite introduces DesignLights Consortium (DLC)-qualified Recessed Troffer Retrofit Kits as an affordable solution for safely upgrading fluorescent luminaires to the benefits of LED technology.

Recently selected for a Department of Energy Gateway demonstration at Princeton University, the Recessed Troffer Retrofit Kit (RKT) enables installers to convert fluorescent troffers to an LED light source without removing the existing fixture. The kit easily retrofits troffers in T-grid drop ceilings common in offices, schools, health care facilities, and public buildings. The energy-efficient RKT complies with California’s Title 24 and is eligible for select utility rebate programs.

“With the RKT, facility managers can reap all the energy-saving and long-life advantages of LED lighting with one easy-to-install system,” said MaxLite Product Manager Ken Charton. “By reducing up-front labor costs and eliminating the potential for asbestos abatement, the RKT makes the upgrade to LED safe and easily attainable for facility managers.”

The RKT is compatible with 0-10-volt dimming systems and its simple dimming driver eliminates the need for additional building controls. When using a standard 0-10v dimming control, the simple dimming driver will fully shut off at the minimum end of the control, eliminating the need for a separate on/off switch that draws additional energy and increases installation time and cost. The driver is supplied with an auxiliary output wire that can be used with MaxLite’s wireless remote dimming kit, allowing installers to add the dimming feature without having to run wire behind the ceiling or walls. The RKT is compatible with motion sensors, timers and daylight harvesting systems for additional energy savings.

The kit is available in two wattage and size combinations: a 40-watt, 2-by-2-foot model and 45-watt, 2-by-4. Both models are offered in standard correlated color temperatures (CCT) of 3500K, 4100K and 5000K. Custom CCTs are available upon request.

Weighing less than six pounds, the one-piece RKT can easily be installed into existing ceiling troffers by a single installer. The kit’s patent-pending design consists of multiple LED strips mounted directly to the carriage and secured by screws through pre-punched holes, allowing for easy handling and replacement. The RKT’s LM-80 rated LED chips yield a lifetime over 103,000 hours at L70 standards.

The kit’s durable, galvanized steel body provides thermal control and resists corrosion in damp locations, while its reflective finish improves retrofit efficacy. Its integrated tunnel cover encloses most existing linear fluorescent ballasts and thermal dot indicators quickly validate application suitability.
