OpenLogic Introduces JumpStart Program to Help Enterprises Create, Implement and Enforce an Effective Open Source Policy

New Program Combines Workshops, Software and Services to Help Companies Put an Open Source Policy in Place, Adopt Open Source Software More Efficiently

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Aug. 9 -- OpenLogic, Inc., a leading provider of software, stacks and support that enable enterprises to easily deploy and manage customized open source environments, today announced the OpenLogic JumpStart program, a package of services and software to help streamline the adoption of open source software in the enterprise. The program cuts down on the risk and cost of using open source software by helping companies to create, implement and enforce an effective open source policy.

Under the JumpStart program, OpenLogic's open source experts guide customers in establishing a policy for the selection, sourcing, licensing, approval, usage, maintenance and support of open source software.

Once the policy has been created, customers can implement the policy using OpenLogic's open source management platform, OpenLogic Enterprise. The JumpStart program includes a 90-day license for OpenLogic Enterprise 4.0 as well as 90 days of access to OpenLogic's technical support for up to 20 open source products.

The key components of the program include:

-- A two-part on-site policy workshop administered by OpenLogic policy experts
-- A workbook that outlines key decisions and guides the customer through the creation of a complete open source policy
-- A 90-day license for OpenLogic Enterprise for up to 20 open source products and 20 users
-- 90 days of business hours support for up to 20 open source products
-- Two days of training and consulting for the rollout of the OpenLogic Enterprise software and implementation of open source policies

"In order to maximize the benefits of open source software, enterprises need an effective open source policy," said Steven Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic. "This program allows us to put our expertise in open source management to work by offering customers a quick, painless way to create, implement and enforce an open source policy at a fixed price."

According to Forrester Research, "Procurement managers and IT architects don't know how to choose the software and set the standards for acquiring open source software that can be acquired at no cost, therefore bypassing normal budget controls. Corporate lawyers don't necessarily know how to review open source licenses to identify potential legal liabilities and mechanisms for controlling those risks. As a result, firms lack the policies necessary to set open source adoption standards and manage the risks of open source licenses." Enterprise environments are one of the fastest-growing sectors for open source adoption. According to a June 2005 Forrester Research report entitled Open Source Usage Is Up, But Concerns Linger, 75% of large enterprises surveyed are either using or plan to use open source software, up from 60% in 2004.
