Innovative PowerPad Finds Power Issues for Effective Troubleshooting

CHESTERLAND OH–When troubleshooting your plant’s power distribution panels and individual machinery, you need a reliable solution to find and analyze specific power issues such as disruptive power spikes. Now CAS DataLoggers has partnered with AEMC to offer the new PowerPad Model 8335, our three-phase power quality analyzer which is easy-to-use, compact and shock-resistant. These new data loggers are ideal for technicians and engineers to measure and carry out diagnostic and power quality work on one, two or three phase low-voltage networks. Complete with FREE software and an intuitive operation, this new power logger also allows verification of power distribution circuits and pad mount transformer monitoring.

Excellent for measuring and recording power system quality (kW, VA, VAR) and performing energy metering (kVAh, VARh, kWh), the new PowerPad records at a Voltage ratio of 1V to 500kV, with either separate or grouped channel configuration. The datalogger connects to mixed sensors from 10mA to 60kA, and measurements can be made simultaneously using several different current sensors. The PowerPad also measures TRMS voltages up to 1000Vrms AC/DC for two, three, four or five-wire systems, and measures TRMS currents up to 6500Arms, with a Transient Adjustment Level allowing adjustment of V or A. You can also see a real time display of Phasor diagrams including values and phase angles and measure active, reactive and apparent power per phase and their respective sum total.

The new power logger monitors the average value of any parameter, calculated over a period running from once a second to every 2 hrs. Additional capabilities include frequency measurement (40 to 69Hz systems), direct measurement of neutral current for WYE configurations, Transient Detection on all V and I inputs, and monitoring inrush current. The logger also determines harmonic problems originating from source or load by measuring harmonic angles and rates for voltage, current or power, up to the 50th harmonic, displaying harmonic sequencing and the direction and calculation of overall harmonics.

The PowerPad’s 2GB internal memory is conveniently partitioned to store 4 different types of data, synchronized or independent of each other. You can also store up to 50 screen snapshots, up to 300 captured transients that contain 4 cycles for each active input, and 10,000 alarm events from up to 40 different parameters. The power logger will record and display trend data for days, weeks or even months, as fast as once per second for a month for up to 25 variables. In addition to recording disturbances, you’ll also see them timestamped and characterized as swells, sags and interruptions, exceedence of power, and harmonic thresholds.

Additionally, FREE DataView software is included for calculation and analysis, including Crest Factors for current and voltage, Phase Unbalances for voltage and current (3 phase only), power factor, displacement power factor and tangent factor. The logger will also calculate the K-Factor for transformers. You’ll find that DataView is easy to learn and navigate for quick identification of your power issues.
