EFJohnson Introduces Viking(TM) VP900 Multi-Band Portable at International Communications Expo (IWCE)

EFJohnson continues expansion of its Viking line of mission critical radios with the Viking VP900 - The Multi-Band for Everyone

IRVING, Texas -- EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. will showcase the Viking(TM) VP900 Multi-Band portable radio, its latest innovation in the Viking line of public safety radios, during the International Wireless Communication Expo (IWCE) March 13-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

"With all of the features you would expect from a multi-band portable, but at half the cost of comparable radios, the Viking VP900 offers an affordable multi-band solution for public safety users - something that has not previously been available as a mass market offering," said Andy Adams, president and CEO of EFJohnson. The VP900 is the smallest multi-band portable radio on the market and is equipped with the loudest audio, the industry's leading noise cancellation, and optional internal GPS. It also includes standard features such as immersion, top display, and voice annunciation.

EFJohnson launched its Viking series in 2012 with the introduction of the Viking VP600 portable radio. With superior performance and Phase 2 TDMA software upgrade capability, the Viking radios have become a top choice for the public safety user community and have been widely deployed across much of North America over the last several months. EFJohnson has recently been awarded contracts that designate them as a P25 public safety radio supplier for state and local agencies across Harris County, Texas and Sedgwick County, Kansas.

Fully compatible with SMARTNET®/SmartZone® trunking and P25 trunked and conventional modes, the Viking radios have remarkable versatility in migrating from analog SMARTNET/SmartZone to digital APCO P25 operation while maintaining seamless public safety communications during and after the migration. "EFJohnson's Viking radios worked great on the Harris County SMARTNET/SmartZone system. We anticipated that each product would perform as well as the other, but we never expected to see the Viking measurably outperform the other product," said Mike Mulligan, deputy fire chief for Harris County's Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department.

After extensive testing of the Viking radios over a three month period, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (WIDOC) acknowledged the superior performance and usability of the Viking radios, highlighting the voice clarity, styling, improved reception, and ease of use. The WIDOC testing directly resulted in EFJohnson securing a multi-million dollar order to upgrade multiple WIDOC facilities with EFJohnson's Viking VP600 subscribers and ATLAS(TM) P25 infrastructure solution.

EFJohnson radios are designed and manufactured in America. The radios are certified to operate across multiple statewide SMARTNET/SmartZone and/or P25 systems and are available for purchase through multiple state and local contract vehicles.

The Viking radios provide a smarter way to P25(TM) interoperability and mission-critical performance in a rugged, reliable and feature-rich package. Attendees to the International Wireless Communications Expo are invited to booth #343 to experience the newly expanded Viking series of radios as well as EFJohnson's ATLAS P25 mission-critical communications solutions.
