Portable CDN enables EMC surge testing to IEC/ANSI standards.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for high current and voltage surge testing, CDN 3083-S100M enables mobility between test sites while adhering to IEC EN 61000-4-5 and ANSI C62.45 specifications. Coupling/decoupling network (CDN) injects standard 1.2/50 µsec combination wave surges up to 8 kV open-circuit and 4 kA 8/20 µsec surge short circuit into main power supply of equipment under test (EUT). Two decoupling networks in parallel with added decoupling units enable 200 A per phase in single phase applications.

Original Press Release:

New Portable, EN 6100-4-5-Compliant CDN from Teseq Enables EMC Surge Testing of High Currents to Most Up-to-Date IEC and ANSI Standards

Edison, N.J. July 2009 - Teseq Inc., a leading developer and provider of instrumentation and systems for EMC emission and immunity testing, now offers a portable coupling/decoupling network (CDN) that enables easy mobility between test sites, while adhering to the latest IEC EN 61000-4-5 and ANSI C62.45 specifications. This combination makes Teseq's new CDN 3083-S100M ideal for high current and voltage surge testing in a growing number of industrial power applications, including power converters, fuel cells and fixed installations.

The CDN 3083-S100M injects standard 1.2/50 microsecond combination wave surges of up to 8 kV open-circuit, and up to 4 kA, 8/20 microsecond surge short circuit, into the main power supply of the EUT (equipment under test).

Designed for use with line-to-line and line-to-ground EUT power supplies of up to 620 VAC, the CDN 3083-S100M provides generous overload capacity on each 100 A phase during short periods, ensuring that frequent inrushes of current are handled effectively. For added versatility, two decoupling networks in parallel with added decoupling units enable 200 A per phase in single phase applications.

Special choke technology incorporated into the unit enables the CDN 3083-S100M to meet all three IEC filter inductance classes (up to 20 A; 20 A to 60 A; 60 A to 100 A), avoiding the costly need of employing several couplers to test the full range of specified inductance. An auto-adaptive back filter fulfills surge protection and voltage drop requirements over the entire range from a few amps to full load.

Coupling modes include surge differential, lines to ground and common to ground with an ANSI coupling set. Decoupling conditions are per IEC 61000-4-5 and ANSI C62.45.

The system's heavy-duty construction, which includes rugged connectors and a solid ground line to ensure proper connection, complies with IEC 61010 personal safety requirements. Its manual design ensures simple operation and allows the CDN to be operated with any Teseq surge generator model.

The CDN 3083-S100M can be placed on the floor or table top as well as wall-mounted to save space in EMC laboratories or development workshops or wheel-mounted for increased mobility. The wheels feature a braking mechanism allowing the unit to operate on ramps and uneven surfaces. Maximum operating temperature is 70°C. EUT connectors are screw-terminal.
