Fortron® 6162XF is low-swell, mineral/glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide that is resistant to oxygenated gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, and aggressive fuels. It withstands continuous use in temperatures from 320-464°F and can tolerate short-term exposure to up to 518°F. Product is also resistant to chemicals and has dimensional stability, creep resistance, and no moisture absorption. Applications can include impellers, outlet covers, and fuel injector components.

Ticona Introduces New Low-Swell Fortron® PPS for Use in Aggressive Auto Fuel Systems
Florence, Ky., Kelsterbach, Germany - Ticona today announced the availability of Fortron® 6162XF, a mineral/glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) with superior fuel resistance for customers that are developing applications for use in aggressive fuels. Ticona will be highlighting this new material at the ITB Automotive Energy Storage Systems and 11th Annual Automotive Fuel Systems 2010 Conference March 3 and 4 in Novi, Mich.
The new advanced fuel resistant Fortron PPS grade has reduced weight gain by more than 45 percent compared to Fortron 6165A6, which has been used successfully in fuel systems. Both Fortron PPS grades are well suited for applications that require components that need extremely high dimensional stability during storage in aggressive fuels. Applications can include impellers, outlet covers and fuel injector components.
"In 1,000-hour exposure tests in CM15A fuel conducted at 194 degrees Fahrenheit (90 degrees Celsius), Fortron 6162XF exhibited superior fuel resistance, with a weight change of less than 1 percent," said Ralf Langhammer, Ticona fuel systems market development engineer.

Fortron PPS is extremely versatile and typically used in fuel systems and components. As a high-performance material, it meets the challenges posed by today's automotive fuels system environments. Specifically:
o Withstands long-term exposure to gasoline, diesel, bio-diesel and aggressive fuels containing such oxygenates as methanol and ethanol, as well as to natural gas and other fuels in alternative propulsion systems
o High continuous use temperature 320 degrees Fahrenheit to 464 degrees Fahrenheit (160 degrees Celsius to 240 degrees Celsius)
o Short-term temperature resistance up to 518 degrees Fahrenheit (270 degrees Celsius)
o Broad chemical resistance - including automotive/aircraft fuels and fluids, strong acids and bases (pH 2 to 12) - even at elevated temperatures
o Superior dimensional stability (low shrink, coefficient of thermal expansion)
o Excellent creep resistance, especially at elevated temperatures
o Virtually no moisture absorption (less than or equal to 0.02 percent)
o Potential weight savings up to 50 percent vs. metal
