VARTA Microbattery's New Mercury-Free Nickel Zinc Batteries

Optimized for Retail and OEM Applications

New Low-Voltage Power Sources Provide Cost Effective, Highly Reliable Alternative to Conventional Silver Oxide Batteries

White Plains, NY, ...Announced today by VARTA Microbattery, a global leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of an extensive variety of rechargeable and primary batteries, is the new mercury-free primary  Nickel Zinc (NiOOH)  Battery Systems.   VARTA Microbattery's nickel zinc cells are developed as an ideal cost effective and highly reliable substitute to conventional primary silver oxide (Ag2O) button cells.  The cells are manufactured with high quality raw materials, unparalleled leakage protection, size, shape, and quality standards equivalent to VARTA Microbattery's popular mercury-free primary SR Silver Oxide (Ag2O) System.    As nickel zinc cell pricing is not tied to the volatility inherent in the silver market, end product pricing for retailers and OEMs is not adversely effected by material cost fluctuations.

VARTA Microbattery's nickel zinc cells may be confidently specified for use in a wide range of miniature, low voltage power source applications in which high-reliability, eco-friendly mercury-free cells are required. The ZR Nickel Zinc (NiOOH) System is particularly suited for watches (analog and digital) as it notably complies with the requirements of the international IEC 60086-3 standard for watch batteries.  Moreover, the cells are highly appropriate for use in such medical devices as blood sugar indicators, insulin pumps and thermometers, as well as in electronic calculators, laser pointers, toys, and remote control applications.

Mike Lasley of Ion Associates said, “The new VARTA Microbattery Nickel Zinc Battery System is a huge announcement for customers.  VARTA is providing the benefit of their long history of German engineering and quality coupled with the low cost associated with Asian manufacturing.  The result is a superb value proposition.”

The nickel zinc cells feature a voltage level of 1.65V and are available with 8 mAh to 130 mAh capacity, in heights ranging from 2.10mm to 5.4mm, and in weights from 0.23 g to 2.33 g.  The cells additionally boast a stable discharge curve, good pulse load behavior, and an EOL detection feature for watch applications.  For more detailed information regarding VARTA Microbattery's cells and configurations, visit http://www.varta-microbattery.com/en/products/batteries-cells-configurations.html.

Pricing for VARTA Microbattery's  mercury-free primary ZR Nickel Zinc (NiOOH) Button 364 Cell  starts at $0.13 each in quantities of 10,000.  Delivery time is to 2-4 weeks.
