Aepona Unveils Wholesale Services Gateway

BARCELONA. Spain

- Provides Operators With Solution for Fast-start Connectivity to Large-scale Wholesale Applications Ecosystems

Aepona today announced a new solution for mobile operators, allowing them to rapidly and cost-effectively connect into the large-scale application developer communities currently being established by commercial cross-network service providers (Mobile Cloud providers) as well as mobile industry initiatives such as the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC).

Aepona's Wholesale Services Gateway (WSG) allows operators that are exposing their network capabilities (e.g. billing, communications and customer intelligence) to third party organizations, to expand the reach of these programs well beyond their own existing developer communities. For operators that have not yet embarked on such initiatives, WSG provides a fast-start solution for the exposure of their enablers, giving them instant access to established developer ecosystems.

Although several operators globally have had Open API programs in place for some time, commercial and technical fragmentation has meant these programs have had relatively limited success to date. Demand from developers for harmonization has led to the emergence of commercial Mobile Cloud Providers offering cross-network mobile enablers that augment the existing services they offer to their partners, as well as the formation of industry groups such as the GSM Association's OneAPI and WAC.

These commercial and industry "API Clouds" represent new wholesale channels for operator network enablers that allow them to tap into large-scale developer ecosystems.

Existing Service Delivery Platforms (SDPs) and other Network Enabler exposure solutions that have been deployed by operators were largely designed to support their own "retail" 3rd party API access programs, but they lack key functionality, such as in-application access, identity management, user privacy & consent and wholesale policy management, required to support this new wholesale model for API exposure.

Aepona's Wholesale Services Gateway solves this issue by providing a cost-effective, rapid-to-deploy solution that can co-exist with existing SDPs, allowing operators to quickly connect to commercial and industry API Clouds and tap into a broad community of application developers, enterprise solution providers and SaaS providers.

Aepona is demonstrating the key capabilities of the Wholesale Services Gateway at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (App Planet, Hall 7 Booth 7CZ7) as well as running the WAC cross-network Identity Enabler demonstration, illustrating a number of the key challenges that are being addressed by WSG.
