Heason 's Latest Miniature Rotary Motor has All the Advantages of Nanomotion's Ceramic Motor Technology

  • New ceramic rotary servo motor provides backlash and hysteresis free micropositioning for stability critical applications

Broadbridge Heath, UK: Heason Technology has launched a new 15 mm diameter miniature precision rotary servo motor from Nanomotion as a direct-drive solution that features the unique operating characteristics of the ceramic motor specialists technology - providing inherent braking and the ability to eliminate servo dither when in a static position - even under power-off conditions.

The ER15 rotary piezo motor incorporates four tiny Edge ceramic linear motor elements in a backlash and hysteresis free arrangement that suits space restricted rotary motion applications where position stability and the ability to hold position without requiring a gearbox is a critical factor. Nanomotion's Edge ceramic motor is in itself a marvel in miniaturisation and is reckoned to be the smallest industrial piezo motor of its kind in the marketplace today.

Aimed at autofocus/zoom modules, shutter/aperture controls, filter changers and pan and tilt modules, the ER-15 produces up to 10 mNm output torque. At around 22 mm in length the 15 mm diameter motor is smaller than comparably rated conventional precision DC brushed and brushless motors - and when taking into account the possible increased length of a gearbox on such motors, is a much better space-saving solution.

The ER 15 is available with the miniature board-based XCD drive and servo control but can be driven with conventional drives if required. There is provision for an optional rotary encoder mounted at the rear or the motor or servo feedback can be supported by an externally mounted linear or rotary encoder.
