Tekmos Introduces 'Drop in Replacement' for NXP P89C668 With the TK89C668 MCU

(A 44 pin 8051-type microcontroller with TWI Serial Inteface, 64K bytes of flash and 8KB of RAM)

AUSTIN, Texas, March 31 /-- Tekmos, Inc. a leader in legacy device replacements to extend product life of Microcontrollers, ASICs, Standard Products and FPGAs, has introduced the industries first true pin-for-pin, code and timing compatible drop in replacement for the P89C668 offered by NXP.

The TK89C668 stands out from other 8051 variants in that it contains 8K of RAM as well as 64K of Flash. The TK89C668 also contains hardware support for the TWI interface, a watchdog timer, security features, and all extended 8051 peripherals. It provides a choice of a 6X or 12X clock with classic timing, and is packaged in a 44 pin PLCC package.

The TK89C668 is designed as a pin-for-pin, code and timing compatible drop in replacement for the original P89C668 microcontroller offered by NXP. The Tekmos TK89C668 offers customers the security of a stable product supply now and in the future.

Tekmos also plans to introduce several derivative products to replace older NXP microcontrollers, along with the recently discontinued Intel 8031/8051 product offerings and drop in replacements for the Freescale 68HC05 microcontroller. Bob Abrams, Vice President of Sales and Marketing stated, "The device is engineered to be a compatible drop in replacement. This eliminates any need to modify the printed circuit board or existing software code."

Pricing and Availability
The TK89C668 is available now in a 44 pin PLCC package, and is priced at $7.50 each in quantities of 1000 units.
