New Spacer Allows Use of Membrane Switches in Environments Exposed to Water, Dust, High or Low Temperatures, and Harsh Cleaners

The new Xymox XyWeld® spacer features a specialty adhesive bonded with a proprietary heat activated process to produce a spacer that is much more robust than a standard PSA. XyWeld allows designers to use a membrane switch in many environments exposed to water, dust, high or low temperatures, and harsh cleaners. The new spacer has been subjected to testing with cleaning agent sprays and general purpose cleaners and has a life cycle of 1,000,000 cycles. It is designed for use in temperatures from -40°C to 70°C. The XyWeld is ideal for use in appliance, medical, pool/spa, and a variety of industrial applications.

The XyWeld spacer has been subjected to a wide range of testing. Some of the test results were as follows. The Thermal Shock test was -40/70°C (1 hour each temp) for 10 cycles. Steady State Heat/Rh was 40°C/95% for 504 hrs. Additional tests were performed for altitude performance, water submergence, humidity, and moisture resistance.
