Membrane Keypads utilize touchscreen technology.

Press Release Summary:

Using projected capacitive touchscreen technology, ZYSWITCH(TM) Keypads detect key presses from behind protective front panel up to 15 mm thick. They feature zero wear-out mechanism and resistance to scratches and physical or chemical attack. Keypads require no software driver, which eases keypad integration and facilitates direct upgrade or replacement of membrane-type units. They can be customized to any shape or size, and address applications up to 16 buttons.

Touchscreen Technology for Keypads Solves Lifetime, Vulnerability and Cost Limitations of Conventional Solutions

Zytronic has applied its durable projected capacitive touch sensor (PCT)-based touchscreen technology to membrane keypad applications, and developed ZYSWITCH(TM), which allows custom keypads to benefit from a zero wear-out mechanism and high resistance to scratches and physical or chemical attack.

The new ZYSWITCH keypad also requires no software driver which eases keypad integration and also simplifies direct upgrade or replacement of membrane-type units already in service. ZYSWITCH keypads can be customized to any shape or size required, and can address applications requiring up to 16 buttons. This makes it well suited for use virtually anywhere a keypad is required, including security controls, domestic appliances, industrial control panels, drinks machines, and elevator controls.

ZYSWITCH keypads use Zytronic's projected capacitive touchscreen technology, as used in the internationally award-winning ZYTOUCH® product. ZYTOUCH touch sensors are robust and drift-free, and have been deployed successfully in a wide range of security and public access applications. This technology will enable ZYSWITCH keypads to operate indoors or outdoors, and is resistant to atmospheric effects including rain, snow, frost, mist, high humidity, and prolonged high ambient temperatures.

Projected capacitive sensing is capable of detecting key presses from behind a protective front panel up to 15 mm thick. This can be security glass, allowing use in cash dispensing machines and entry control systems. A sacrificial glass or polycarbonate screen is often specified in public access applications, allowing continuous operation despite accidental or even malicious damage.

Operation from a single 9V rail, with low current requirements, simplifies power supply design for ZYSWITCH keypads and also enables battery operation or battery back-up if required.
