Magnetic Proximity Sensors have bi-stable contact.
Magnetic Proximity Sensors have bi-stable contact.

December 9, 2005 - Suited for positioning and speed sensing applications, C 12 Bi-Stable, Mag Sensor and Magnet, and ELE Sensors can have up to 3 contacts in same 12 mm body. Products, offered with dry contact, NPN, or PNP outputs, sense magnet up to 2 in. away. Dry contacts are available in 500 mA, 1 A, and 3 A sealed reed version. Able to tolerate temperatures from -200 to +250°C, capacitive sensors can see through walls with adjustable sensitivity and provide integral time delay and relay output.

Hoyt Announces the New Proximity Sensors

PENACOOK, NH - November 15, 2005 - Hoyt Electrical Instrument Works announced the immediate availability of a new line of proximity sensors. The C 12 Bi-Stable, Mag Sensor and Magnet, and the ELE Sensors. The new magnetic proximity switches are ideal for positioning and speed sensing applications. As long as a magnet can be affixed to the target, then the client should be using this type of sensor over an inductive type. Where an inductive sensor has to be mounted within close proximity to the target, these MAG sensors can sense a magnet almost 2 inches away. These switches are offered with dry contact outputs, NPN or even PNP outputs. The dry contacts are available in 500mA, 1A and 3 Amp sealed reed version. Inductive proximity switches usually only handle 200 to 300mA. The capacitive sensors can see through walls with adjustable sensitivity which allows unit to see through various materials eliminating holes in sidewalls. Other benefits to capacitive sensors would include integral time delay, relay output and tolerance to extreme temperature of -200 to +250°C.

The MAG sensors can also have up to 3 contacts in the same slim 12mm body. Another feature available is a sensor that houses a latched or bi-stable contact or even yet a standard and a latched contact. On proximity sensors with latch function, the south polarity of the magnet switches the bi-stable contact and closes the N.O. contact. Without the magnet only the bi-stable contact remains closed. The North polarity magnet switches the bi-stable contact and recluses the N.O. one and without the magnet both contacts are open. Some will react only to the North pole of a magnet and others only to the South pole and still others will react to either.

So with features such as multi-contact outputs, spectacular sensing range and outstanding value, The MAG sensors have many uses. Approved for use in elevator applications, the MAG sensors can also be used for sensing elevator movements, detecting the speed of a motor, numerous conveyor belts applications, the position of a door or valve (open or closed), stopping a machine if the load exceeds the motor's rating and the list goes on.
