February 19, 2014 - Employing guided wave radar, Impulse® Series Continuous TDR Level Transmitters provide accurate measurement of total level, distance, or volumetric outputs. Units operate from -40 to 392°F and can measure level of liquids up to 50 ft. Optional Wave Guide Nozzle Eliminator removes signal interference normally caused by tank nozzles. Available in lengths from 6–36 in., option provides contained signal path that passes through nozzle without need for coaxial probe system.

HORSHAM, PA — AMETEK Drexelbrook, the leader in level measurement technology, has added the new Wave Guide Nozzle Eliminator to its Impulse® Series Continuous TDR (time domain reflectometry) level transmitters. The new Wave Guide option eliminates signal interference normally caused by tank nozzles.

“Existing non-coaxial guided radar systems on the market run into performance problems when the tank nozzle becomes too long.  When that happens, the nozzle creates signal interference with the electromagnetic pulse running along the probe,” comments Bob Irving, Director of Marketing for AMETEK Measurement & Calibration Technologies.

“Until now it was normally recommended that a ratio of less than 1:1 (nozzle length to diameter) was needed to ensure fault-free performance. The Wave Guide eliminates this restriction, allowing fault-free operation in applications previously considered unsuitable for this technology.”

The new AMETEK Drexelbrook Wave Guide Nozzle Eliminator provides a contained signal path that passes through the nozzle without the added expense of purchasing a co-axial probe system, which provides similar nozzle protection but is more expensive to purchase, ship and install due to the rigid nature of the probe. Wave Guide Nozzle Eliminators are available in lengths from six to 36 inches.

The Drexelbrook Impulse Series level transmitter employs field-proven guided wave radar to provide accurate measurement of total level, distance or volumetric outputs. Its TDR technology has been widely used in level measurement for its inherent ability to remain unaffected by variations in process materials electrical characteristics.

The reliable and highly accurate (3 mm) Impulse Series transmitter provides continuous level measurement of liquids to ranges up to 50 ft. (15 m). It has 5 different sensor types and is constructed of 316SS and Hastelloy C for use in environments that are classified hazardous (Class I, Div. 1) with either Intrinsically Safe or Explosion Proof installation requirements.

The system operates in temperature ranges from –40°F to 392°F (-40°C to 200°C) and with process pressures up to 580 psig (40 bar). The system is available with either a threaded ¾” NPT or 1-1/2” NPT or ANSI flanged process connections from 1” through 8” 150# and 300# ratings.

Its compact electronics with display and keypad precludes the need for expensive hand-held communicators or PC software. Internal software features support measurements of Level, Distance or Volume. Custom characterizations for non-standard tank shapes can be set up through a 21-point strapping table.

The Impulse Series features a simple, user friendly, easy-to-navigate configuration set-up. No calibration or level changes needed.  Its dual compartment housing ensures dependable service by separating the wiring terminals from the intrinsically safe electronic circuitry, display and keypad.

AMETEK Drexelbrook is an acknowledged leader in level measurement and a unit of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of $3.6 billion.
