New Electronic Hospital Night Light is a Hit with Nurses, and a Bigger Hit with Patients

A new high tech portable light has become a great tool for nurses who don't want to disturb patient's sleep.

Nurses are known for their empathy with patients as well as their initiative and creativity in seeking new ways to improve patient care.

Anyone who has spent a few days in a hospital knows that it can be difficult to get a good nights sleep. While doing their rounds, nurses are forced to turn on the overhead room lights in the middle of the night in order to check each patient. This sudden bright light often disrupts the sleep of the patients and adds to their fatigue.

A group of nurses in a small Ontario hospital avoids this sleep disruption by using a portable, cordless light that was originally designed for use by automotive and industrial mechanics.

According to Maxxeon company spokesman, John Schira, "...this is a great example of technology transfer by dedicated professionals...and is a cost-effective solution to a problem faced every day in a hospital environment."

This high-tech LED lighting tool is the Canadian made Maxxeon WorkStar 1400. It features a moveable head with a bright white wide-angle beam and runs for over 4 hours on a charge. The light becomes "hands-free" by using either the self-contained hook or magnets.
