FCI Introduces the Mini-SAS HD Internal I/O Product Family for SAS 2.1 and 3.0 Applications

ETTERS, PA — FCI, a leading manufacturer of high speed I/O cable assembly and connector systems, introduces its internal Mini-SAS HD product offering, that includes board connectors and cable assemblies, for applications that require SAS 2.1 (6Gb/s) and SAS 3.0 (12Gb/s) protocol signaling. This product family extension now satisfies hardware applications that would require either external I/O systems (with EMI provisions) or internal I/O systems.
The Mini-SAS HD internal board connectors are offered in 1x1, 1x2 and 1x4 configurations and feature the same internal connector that is used in FCI’s external board connector and cage system, which assures consistent electrical and mechanical performance. The interface and latching features are fully compliant to SFF- 8643 standards.
The mating Mini-SAS HD internal cable assembly features internal Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS HD cable configurations and internal Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS legacy cables. Compliant to either SAS 2.1 or SAS 3.0 include full compliant sideband signaling for low speed signal transmission. The high-speed signal utilizes 3M’s planar twin-axial raw cable. 3M’s raw cable allows for either straight or right angle cable routing without signal performance degradation.

The Mini-SAS HD board connector is fully compliant to the SAS 2.1 and SAS 3.0 specification and allows for a seamless transition from 6Gb/s to 12Gb/s signal speeds. Internal Mini-SAS HD cable assemblies are offered in 4i and 8i configurations on the Mini-SAS HD end of the cable assemblies as specified in SFF-8643. The cables also offer two sideband signaling patterns - “controller to backplane” or “controller to controller”.
