FLIR Systems New ThermaCAM GasFindIR HSX Enhances Leak Detection Capabilities

Oil and gas, and petrochemical industries can use GasFindIR HSX to find smaller leaks faster for greater efficiency, safety and profitability

BOSTON, Massachusetts (April 9, 2008) - FLIR Systems, Inc., the global leader in infrared cameras, announced today the addition of the ThermaCAM GasFindIR HSX(TM) to its line of GasFindIR infrared cameras for the detection of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). GasFindIR has been used extensively in oil and gas, and petrochemical companies as a way to find gas leaks as part of their predictive maintenance programs. The GasFindIR HSX delivers high-volume scanning to quickly and easily spot leaks in tank cars, pipelines, and facilities.

"FLIR's GasFindIR cameras are proven in a number of applications within the petrochemical, oil and gas industries. The latest GasFindIR HSX reflects growing demand from our customers to help find smaller leaks faster before they become catastrophic. Having the right tools to prevent equipment and facility downtime is key to having quality maintenance programs and managing operational costs," said Paul Czerepuszko, Director, Business Development, FLIR Systems.

The GasFindIR HSX adds six new scene integration modes (for a total of nine scene integrations modes), new battery and power features, better image resolution, and new productivity features. The new camera helps predictive maintenance organizations maximize safety and profitability by keeping close watch on methane and other VOC leaks in facilities and pipelines.

High Sensitivity Mode(TM) image enhancement provides five times better sensitivity for gas detection. "Normal Scene", "Cold Scene", and "Hot Scene" can be selected at 60 Hz, 30 Hz, or 15 Hz to optimize for scene conditions. By changing frame acquisition rates, thermographers can fine tune image performance in hot and cold environments to help find the smallest leaks.

Also new to the GasFindIR HSX is a Lithium ION battery that lasts 8-hours and is field replaceable. The camera also comes with a new AC Adapter for 110/220 VAC, 50/60 Hz power and 12-volt connectivity to a vehicle.

Images are processed and enhanced by the GasFindIR HSX High Sensitivity Mode(TM) (HSM), which clearly shows the presence of gases.
