Roland Introduces the MPX-90M Direct Part Marking Device

Compact and Affordable MPX-90M Permanently Marks Medical Devices with Micro 2D DataMatrix Barcodes

Irvine, Calif., - Roland DGA Corp. has expanded its impact printer line with the MPX-90M, a compact and affordable direct part marking tool designed specifically for use in medical device manufacturing. Based on Roland's proven micro-percussion direct part marking technology, the MPX-90M imprints surgical instruments and tools with permanent GS1 DataMatrix barcodes, enabling manufacturers to readily comply with new, stricter regulations over the supply chain.

"The MPX-90M meets all 2012 U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for Unique Device Identification (UDI)," said Hiroshi Ono, group product manager for Roland "Designed for accuracy and efficiency, the MPX-90M makes it easy for manufacturers to properly identify new and existing tools for tracking and traceability, a critical factor in ensuring patient safety."

The MPX-90M uses a durable diamond-tipped stylus to directly imprint on titanium, stainless steel and other hard metals up to 200 HV. Ideal for device manufacturers carrying out small lot production, the MPX-90M allows users to quickly imprint up to 26 digits of information inside an area as small as one square millimeter.

METAZAStudio software is included, which instantly converts numerical data into 2D DataMatrix barcodes in GS1 and other formats. In addition, the MPX-90M imprints numbers, text, symbols, logos, photos, QR codes and other graphics with precision. Variable data printing automates the serialization process, making it easy to mark each tool with a unique barcode, serial number or production date.

Virtually maintenance free, the MPX-90M is easy to operate, with no special training required. To imprint an item, users simply secure it with the included vise and locate the center of the area to be marked with the built-in laser pointer. The imprinting process is completely free of odors and debris. Imprinted surfaces will not corrode or degrade over time, allowing the barcode to remain readable throughout the product lifecycle.

The MPX-90M is priced at $12,995. For more information, please call Roland customer services at (800) 542-2307 or visit www.rolanddga.com/mpx90m.
