March 14, 2007 - Large scale integration FIR (Fast Infrared)/VFIR (Very Fast Infrared) controller in TFBGA package, ASDL-7021, supports high-speed infrared (IrDA) transfer speeds from 115.2 Kbps to 16 Mbps. Single-chip solution integrates all necessary hardware to implement IrDA and also includes on-chip buffer memory and direct memory access that enables it to access peripheral IO and memory from its system bus. Miniaturized IR transceivers, ASDL-3212 and ASDL-3023, support speeds to 4 Mbps.

Avago Launches New Infrared Components for High-Speed Wireless Connectivity

BARCELONA, Spain, 3GSM, Feb. 14, 2007 -- Avago Technologies today announced it has added three new highly integrated, high-speed infrared components to its product line. The company is a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for advanced communications, industrial and commercial applications. A next-generation, large scale integration FIR (Fast Infrared)/VFIR (Very Fast Infrared) controller in a TFBGA package, the ASDL-7021 complements Avago's broad portfolio of infrared IrDAŽ transceivers and IrSimple protocol software to provide design engineers with a comprehensive solution for high-speed wireless connectivity. Avago's ASDL-7021 supports high-speed infrared (IrDA) transfer speeds, including SIR (115.2 Kbps), MIR (1.152 Mbps), FIR (4 Mbps) and VFIR (16 Mbps).

As a single chip solution that integrates all necessary hardware to implement IrDA, the ASDL-7021 also includes an on-chip buffer memory and direct memory access (DMA) that enables it to access peripheral IO and memory from its system bus. Encoding and decoding IR signals, the ASDL-7021 serves as an interface to a host microcontroller using an 8-bit memory mapped interface. The ASDL-7021 measures 1.2 mm x 4 mm x 4 mm and is available in a 48-pin, TFBGA package.

Avago also announced two miniaturized infrared transceivers, the ASDL-3212 and ASDL-3023. Supporting speeds of up to 4 Mbps, the ultra-slim ASDL-3023 is a high-performance FIR transceiver capable of transmitting remote control signals over 8 meters and has an exclusive power saving feature that allows design engineers to achieve superior power consumption with no compromise in performance. The ASDL-3212 is a small form factor MIR transceiver transferring data at 1.152 Mbps which offers smart IOVCC input for a flexible, low-voltage range logic interface and extended link distance capability. It is developed in a 1.64 mm x 2.73 mm x 7 mm, ChipLED, lead-free surface mount package.

The market for infrared technologies continues to grow as more handheld devices, such as mobile handsets, PDAs and industrial handheld terminals, require a variety of wireless connectivity options. Higher speed IrDA transceivers and IrSimple protocols provide mobile devices with the fastest data transfer time, lower power consumption and higher security features at a much lower design cost.

U.S. Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the ASDL-7021 begins at $2.50 in moderate volumes. The ASDL 3212 is priced at $1.00 and ASDL-3023 is priced at $1.50 in moderate volumes. All three products are available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.
