S-76C++ Upgrades, New S-76D Announced at HAI

ANAHEIM, Calif., Feb 6 -- Sikorsky Aircraft today announced a series of engine, air vehicle, interior and avionics upgrades available for order immediately on the new S-76C++(TM) helicopter and a set of additional product improvements that will lead to the launch of the new S-76D(TM) model in 2008.

The extensive product upgrades, outlined for the first time here at Helitech 2005, ensure that the S-76C++ and the future S-76D will remain best- in-class in the corporate VIP, offshore oil, airline, EMS/ search-and-rescue and law enforcement segments.

"The S-76's success has been built by meeting the needs of the customer. We continue that tradition with a series of product upgrades that will provide more power, range, operating efficiencies, reliability and comfort. An aircraft with a proud history has an even greater future, " said Jeff Pino, Sikorsky's Senior Vice President for Sales and Commercial Programs.

Product improvements available immediately on the S-76C++ include:

o Turbomeca Arriel 2S2 Engine Upgrade. The replacement 2S2 will provide a 5 to 6 percent increase in engine ratings, 350 to 450 lb increase in Category A takeoff gross weight at sea level 90F, and a barrier filter that provides superior protection against FOD and contamination, resulting in longer time-between overhaul, fewer removals and lower costs.

o New VIP interior. A sleek, modern, leather interior, with a three-person aft-facing bench and two forward-facing captains chairs is coupled with an improved soundproofing system using Keystone's SILENCER(TM) technology to meet the highest standards for luxury and elegance. A mockup of the new interior is on display at the Sikorsky booth No. 3069 in Hall B.

o New HUMS (Health and Usage Monitoring System). The Honeywell VXP has 25,000 flight hours proven capability as the best-in-class tool for cost management, efficient maintenance scheduling, and vibration based maintenance delivering improved safety, reliability and life-cycle cost reduction.

o Quiet Zone Technology(TM). As previously announced, Sikorsky's proprietary Quiet Gearbox technology will enable significant interior noise level reductions without weight penalty, increased maintenance and with no increase in TBOs. With these improvements the interior will be 4 dBA lower than with previous transmissions and the cabin will have the lowest interior noise levels of any helicopter in the S-76's class.

The S-76D will build upon the upgrades slated immediately for the C++ by offering additional product improvements to include:

o New Composite Main Rotor Blade. The new blade featuring advanced airfoils, a composite spar and integral deice will provide added efficiencies and meet the latest FAA safety standards for damage tolerance. The blade will increase hover performance and cruise efficiency, with almost 300 additional pounds capability for Cat A hot take-off performance and 50 additional nautical miles range compared with today's main rotor blade.

o New Quiet Tail Rotor. The S-76D will add even more comfort and environmentally friendly efficiencies with the New Quiet Tail Rotor. The New Quiet Tail Rotor will produce 2 dBA exterior noise reduction on takeoff, a 1.5 dBA exterior noise reduction on flyover, and no change in performance, handling or sideward flight capability.

o Rotorcraft Icing Protection System (RIPS). RIPS will provide the ability to launch into known icing conditions, maximizing the S-76D's dispatch reliability. A state-of-the-art controller for the electrical deiced main and tail rotor blades will minimize the system's power consumption and maximize its reliability.

o New Cockpit. A modern, highly integrated avionics system designed to the latest FAA/JAA requirements. The S-76D cockpit will feature large, flat-panel LCDs that will reduce pilot workload and improve cockpit visibility.

o New Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210 Engine. Pratt & Whitney Canada will develop the new PW210 engine. The PW210S, tailored for the specific needs of S-76D customers, will encompass the latest turbine technologies to provide the best match of power, range, payload, and fuel consumption. The Category A hot takeoff capability will increase by nearly 1,000 pounds, while maintaining the range advantage of the S-76C+.
