Gaumer Company's INFI-SEAL Technology is a Process Heater Industry Breakthrough

Gaumer's INFI-SEAL Technology Increases Heater Reliability by Transforming the MgO in a Tubular Heater's Cold Section From Hygroscopic to Hydrophobic (From Readily Absorbing Water to Repelling Water)

HOUSTON, May 2, 2005 -- Gaumer Company, a manufacturer and technology leader in the application of electric process heaters, today announced the discovery of a new patent pending technology, INFI-SEAL. The technology is available immediately as an option on Gaumer manufactured heaters. INFI-SEAL provides improved heater reliability and eliminates moisture related start-up problems.

"INFI-SEAL represents the most important innovation that Gaumer engineers have discovered over the past 40 years," said Jack L. McClanahan, P.E., president of Gaumer Company. "The INFI-SEAL technology will be of the greatest benefit to customers with demanding applications, including many companies at the Offshore Technology Conference today."

INFI-SEAL heaters provide the following benefits:

-- Increase heater life

-- Eliminate moisture-related start-up problems

-- Prevent ground fault shutdown

-- Decrease the chance of electric shock

The INFI-SEAL technology transforms an electric heating element's hygroscopic Magnesium Oxide (MgO) into a hydrophobic barrier. INFI-SEAL heating elements exhibit infinite resistance to ground and do not absorb or retain moisture. Further, these qualities do not degrade over time based on Gaumer's extended testing to-date.

"My experience with electric process heaters has found their Achilles' heel to be moisture in the refractory," said David Martin, Project Engineer for a large chemical company. "Gaumer's INFI-SEAL technology appears as a remarkable development and could be very helpful in solving our most difficult application problems. I'm excited to see this technology in action."
