March 20, 2008 - Flight support service has automatic dosimetry reporting capability that allows operators to track exposure of flight crews to potential radiation. Users can configure their accounts to collect and report dosimetry data on weekly basis. Radiation exposure is calculated by integrating each individual's flight records over time-routes, times, and altitudes with known data and geographic measurements of actual cosmic/solar radiation levels at time of flights.

ARINC DirectSM Offers Dosimetry Reporting Service for Business Aviation Customers

Annapolis, Maryland, USA, March 13, 2008-ARINC DirectSM today announced it has added an automatic Dosimetry Reporting capability to its standard portfolio of flight support services for business aviation. The new capability allows operators to
track the exposure of flight crews to potential radiation.

Effective immediately, ARINC Direct customers may choose to have their flight plans and crew names automatically forwarded each week for dosimetry monitoring. ARINC has arranged with radiation monitoring specialist IASON of Graz, Austria to archive and forward dosimetry data for customers who wish to use their service. ARINC does not charge a fee.

"We are responding to a growing awareness in our industry of the potential effect of repeated low-level exposure to radiation during flight," stated Dave Poltorak, ARINC Vice President, EMEA. "ARINC Direct customers can now configure their accounts to collect and report dosimetry data including crew names, planned routes of flight, altitudes, and flight times, on a weekly basis."

High altitude flight is known to expose aircraft crews and passengers to variable levels of background radiation coming from outer space and the Sun. Measuring the cumulative exposures of flight crew members over time is now viewed as a necessary precaution by European regulators, who have established exposure rules for commercial flight crews.

Radiation exposure is calculated by integrating each individual's flight records over time-routes, times, and altitudes-with known data and geographic measurements of the actual cosmic and solar radiation levels at the time of flights.

Customers may sign up for automatic archiving of dosimetry data through their ARINC Direct account page, or by contacting an ARINC Direct representative.

"This offering is a further example of the fast-paced development that has allowed ARINC Direct to leap in less than two years from a customer base of zero to more than 120 aircraft customers in the European market," continued Poltorak. "Our base in the United States is growing proportionately, and is now approaching 2000 aircraft."

ARINC Direct, an essential partner to business aviation, is on course to become a true one-stop shop for flight needs, providing all aspects of operations support with online access to planning, filing, weather, AFTN, worldwide fuel releases, runway analysis, and more.

ARINC Incorporated, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide.
