Tyco Fire & Building Products Expands Sprinkler Capabilities with New Combustible Concealed Fire Sprinkler

Lansdale, Penn.-September 2, 2004-Tyco Fire & Building Products, a business unit of Tyco Engineered Products & Services, recently announced the introduction of the new CC2 Combustible Concealed Sprinkler to the fire protection market. The second combustible concealed sprinkler to be offered by Tyco, the CC2 Combustible Concealed Sprinkler offers increased coverage and spacing, as well as well as a wider range of application options than standard combustible concealed sprinklers.

The CC2 Combustible Concealed Sprinklers is a fast response, upright specific application sprinkler designed to provide protection of light hazard combustible, as well as non-combustible, concealed spaces requiring sprinkler protection. These combustible concealed areas include narrow attics, interstitial spaces between floors, and eave spaces that are accessible for storage, all of which can become highly volatile in the occurrence of a fire.

In comparison to Tyco's original CC1 model, the UL Listed CC2 Combustible Concealed Sprinkler features a 5.6 K-factor, an increased maximum coverage area from 100 square feet to 144 square feet, increased maximum spacing from 10 feet to 12 feet, and can be use with wet or dry pipe sprinkler systems.

"The development of the CC2 was based on the ability to have a product available where dry systems are used," says Jim Brunetti, product manager, Tyco Fire & Building Products. "The original CC sprinkler was limited to wet systems only due to its smaller orifice size."

The CC2 Combustible Concealed Sprinkler also meets NFPA® (National Fire Protection Association) requirements for specialty listed sprinklers in combustible concealed spaces, which allows for the use of CPVC in wood truss spaces requiring sprinkler protection, as well as the hydraulic calculation of a 1000-square-foot remote area - 30 percent smaller than those using standard spray sprinklers. Unlike standard sprinklers which proved ineffective in fire tests for these types of spaces, the CC2 meets the NFPA 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems which now mandates that sprinklers used in combustible concealed spaces must be listed for use with CPVC in wood truss spaces.
