SecuGen Releases New Fingerprint Sensor, FDA02 v2.0, With Very Fast One-to-Many Matching Algorithm

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 14 - SecuGen is pleased to announce the release of its new fingerprint sensor, the FDA02(TM) v2.0, which features a high speed one-to-many matching algorithm for rapid user identification. The FDA02 v2.0 includes a patented optical fingerprint module and a PC board with CPU and flash memory that can hold up to 2,000 fingerprint records.

Typically used in the manufacture of access control and time attendance systems, the FDA02 is easily integrated into most kinds of door lock units, time clocks, and related hardware. The processing functions needed for fingerprint recognition -- Fingerprint Capture, Minutiae Extraction, and Template Matching (both one-to-one and one-to-many) -- are all carried out in the on-board CPU, making the FDA02 ideal for stand-alone applications. With one-to-one matching, the FDA02 can authenticate a registered user based on a PIN or user ID. With one-to-many matching, the FDA02 can identify a registered user without a PIN or user ID.

The FDA02 v2.0 has a vastly improved one-to-many algorithm that can search 2,000 fingerprint templates to make a match in less than 1 second.

Eugene Brink, CEO and Managing Director of GWT (Pty) Ltd., whose access control/time attendance product IDU has been installed at many sites throughout South Africa, including McDonald's, various government institutions and the South African Police Service (including the President of Interpol's office), says about the FDA02 v2.0, "What's really impressive is the combination of SecuGen's faster matching algorithm and its ability to accept dry, scarred and wet fingers. We have tested it at selected client sites where they had problems with identification and verification, even at low security settings. Now, identification with the FDA02 v2.0 is so good that we don't have to use verification with a PIN anymore. The performance is just as good at higher, more stringent security levels."

SecuGen's FDA02 uses minutiae-based fingerprint templates for registering and matching users. This method extracts a portion of fingerprint data and encrypts them to form a template, thus allowing a fingerprint to be greatly reduced in size without losing unique information, while at the same time, protecting people's privacy by not storing their fingerprint images.

The FDA02 v2.0 and its earlier model, FDA02 v1.x, which supports one-to-one authentication for up to 8,800 templates, are currently available for purchase. The FDA02 Developer's Kit is also available for purchase and contains all the hardware, software, documentation and support needed to quickly and easily integrate the FDA02 into other products.
