Mainstream Data Launches MediasFTP(TM) - Managed FTP Delivery Service

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 28 / -- Mainstream Data today announced a new addition to its Medias(TM) suite of managed content delivery solutions: MediasFTP(TM). MediasFTP(TM) combines the industry standard File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and secure FTP standards with Mainstream's proprietary applications and monitoring technologies to provide secure, simultaneous, cost-effective broadcast delivery of high-value content using standard IP infrastructure. The new addition to Mainstream's Medias Suite enables end-to- end management, monitoring and reporting and extends Mainstream's "no compromises digital network" service.

FTP vs. MediasFTP(TM)

FTP has emerged as the choice for low-cost point-to-point delivery of large files by individuals and institutions. However, it has long suffered from manageability and reliability issues when used for survival-dependent point-to-multipoint applications.

According to Mainstream's Chief Technology Officer, Scott D. Smith, "Broadcast IP distribution of news, photographs and web video content using FTP protocol is problematic mainly because of the difficulty of administering large FTP networks. However," Smith said, "Our new MediasFTP(TM) solutions significantly improves the reliability and the manageability of large FTP deployment. This means that companies, including broadcasters and information content firms can now effortlessly use FTP to deliver their digital content to newspapers, TV and radio stations, as well as to major web portals.

According to Mainstream, one of the key advantages of MediasFTP(TM) is its integration with Mainstream's other satellite and Internet delivery products. Customers can now deliver streaming or file-based data to Mainstream, which the Salt Lake City base company will deliver to their clients using satellite, streaming internet or FTP. Mainstream's 24-hour technical staff manages and monitors all the content the company delivers and notifies clients and the end users if an end user site goes down.

A Suite Solution

MediasFTP(TM) is the newest extension of Mainstream's expanding suite of information distribution services. In addition to MediasFTP(TM), Mainstream offers a range of content distribution options including broadcast satellite, two-way VSAT, and MediasNet(TM), the company's Internet push delivery service. While MediasFTP(TM) uses standard FTP transmission protocols, it makes use of specific industry and customer group and category codes - allowing it to segment and send the appropriate data for each recipient.

"MediasFTP is a significant step forward in our technology base of offerings and extends our range of applications. Our applications are intended to meet each of the specific needs of our clients' very diverse group of end-users around the globe," said Scott E. Calder, President & CEO of Mainstream Data. Mr. Calder, a finalist for World Teleport Association's Executive of the Year Award in February added, "Managing an internal FTP delivery system can be complex. By using MediasFTP, clients can outsource this key piece of their distribution process at a much lower cost, and take advantage of advanced features such as built-in addressing capabilities and enhanced monitoring. We find that this type of application allows clients, whether they are in the media, digital cinema and signage, or enterprise areas, to continue to focus on their core business- which is the creation and marketing of quality content."
