GF Piping Systems' New Signet Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor Reduces Maintenance and Energy Consumption
Press release date: August 27, 2012
TUSTIN, Calif. - GF Piping Systems has added the new 2610 Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor to its extensive line of flow and analytical instrumentation product line. The new sensor utilizes optical technology to measure dissolved oxygen with high reliability and accuracy while reducing maintenance and energy costs.
Measurement of the proportion of oxygen in fluid is an important parameter in many industries, including municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, food and beverage, aquatic life support and aquaculture industries. Traditionally, dissolved oxygen has been measured utilizing galvanic or polarimetric measurement technologies that require membranes and reference solutions. GF Piping's optical dissolved oxygen technology eliminates the need for replacement of membrane andreference solutions associated with these types of technologies, thereby reducing maintenance costs.
The new 2610 Sensor incorporates an optical sensor cap that is factory calibrated and requires no field calibration. The cap features a one year lifetime compared to membrane life, which is typically three to six months. Long service life is further enhanced through the optical technology's resistance to abrasion and bleaching.
The 2610 Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor was designed primarily for wastewater treatment applications. Since wastewater aeration is the largest component of energy consumption in a wastewater treatment system, solutions to improve on this are in demand. By using the new sensor to monitor the dissolved oxygen levels in a wastewater system, operators can reduce the energy demand required for the system.
Key features to the new sensor include rugged materials of construction that can withstand the harsh environments of both fresh and saltwater applications. Built-in Modbus RS485 and 4 to 20 mA current loop outputs provide ease of interface to existing control systems. Combining the Signet 2610 dissolved oxygen sensor with the new 9900 transmitter gives the user a cost effective dissolved oxygen monitoring system. Operating capabilities include a measurement range of 0 to 20 mg/L, 0 to 200% saturation, and accuracies of: ± 0.1 mg/L for 0 to 8 mg/L and ±0.2 mg/L for 8 to 20 mg/L. The new sensor is CE and FCC approved and available with two week lead-time.
"The addition of dissolved oxygen measurement to our product line, along with turbidity, chlorine, flow and other monitoring capabilities, greatly enhance our strength in the municipal and industrial water treatment markets," says Michael Gallagher, GF Piping Systems Product Manager.
