PBX Secure Direct Opening Action Switches

The launch of the PBX Secure range of direct opening action switches marks an important stage in the development of Crouzet's Position Sensors business. Crouzet combines expertise with innovation and a genuine desire to respond to the needs of integrators and OEMs in the railway sector and the electrical industry. The PBX Secure direct opening action switch guarantees contact. Its standard dimensions comply with standard DIN 41 636-6 form F and ensure it can be integrated in any application.

Switches designed for severe environments

Crouzet, with over 60 years' experience in industries requiring safety and reliability, has launched the PBX Secure range, thus strengthening its position in the railway market by offering numerous onboard applications for both inside and outside the rolling stock, including joystick controller, emergency stop, door opening, medium-voltage circuit-breaker and braking system applications.

A leading manufacturer in the electrical industry, with more than 30 families of microswitches and limit switches, Crouzet is adding to its offer with the PBX Secure. PBX Secure is used as an auxiliary safety contact for devices such as medium-voltage circuit breakers, motorized disconnect switches and ground disconnect switches.

In the field of industrial lifting, the PBX Secure is ideal for position detection requirements in the geared motors of lifting machinery.

Compliance with industrial and railway standards

The PBX Secure range complies with the following industrial and railway standards:

- EN 50124-1 (insulation coordination)

- NFF 16-101/102 (French Fire/Smoke standard): housing material is I2/F1certified

- UL94-VO

- IEC 60947-5-1 Annex K (switchgear for control circuits)

- DIN 41 636-6 form F (standard on dimensions)

The PBX has CE and CCC marking. uL, Csa and VDE approvals are available on request.

Forced opening of contacts

The PBX Secure is a safety switch which guarantees the forced opening of NC contacts even in the event of a short circuit and/or welding due to an overcurrent. NO and NC circuits are electrically isolated (form Zb). PBX mechanism, patented and proven (EP 11227362), is in compliance with IEC 60947-5-1 Annex K standard.

"The technical challenge for the PBX was not just to ensure that it complied with the standards of the target markets, we needed above all to improve certain performance criteria in relation to customer requirements. Our expertise in the eld of switches and switching for critical functions made this possible", explained Michael Favat, Marketing Manager at Crouzet's Switches and Aerospace Sensors business unit.

Extensive overtravel

The long overtravel actuator allows any tolerance deviations of the sub-assembly in which the switch is incorporated to be absorbed. The result - limited maintenance adjustments. "When designing the PBX, our engineers wanted to limit the impact of wear of the mechanisms and the consequences in terms of equipment maintenance. Furthermore, a long overtravel optimizes factory assembly by making the settings simpler, thus saving time for integrators", added Michael Favat.

IP40 & IP67 seal

The range offers two levels of sealing in two identically sized versions to provide an exact solution to integrators' requirements:

- A standard IP40 version where the actuator is protected by a membrane

- An IP67 version which integrates a one-piece component comprising a membrane
and a seal to protect both the actuator and the mechanism respectively. Potting points
insulate the link between the terminals, the housing and the cover.

PBX Secure - adapting to customers' needs

A range of accessories is available to add to the standard version, including roller levers, mounting plates and protective terminal covers. In addition, Crouzet's expert team of sales engineers and product designers are on hand to technically adapt products to meet specific customer requirements such as special connections, special protective covers or special actuators and create customized logistics solutions.

Wire outputs soon available.
