Camera Module Assembly, Align & Test Flexible Automation Systems Enhanced with Remote Support by AEI

Global Demand by Automotive and Cell Phone OEMS for Flexible Automation Systems for Camera Module Alignment Drives Need for Enhanced 24X7 Support

WILMINGTON, Mass.--March 19, 2008--Automation Engineering Incorporated (AEi), a global supplier of high-precision automation systems, now ships its CMAT(TM) (Camera Module Assembly, Align and Test) systems with online remote support capabilities. AEi's CMAT flexible automation system uses machine vision to actively align a lens assembly in X, Y, Z and across the corners in pitch and roll, achieving an even focus across its focal plane. The CMAT station achieves camera module alignment, assembly and test production rates that are 500 to 1000 percent faster than using manual methods. Using the remote support capabilities based on Virtual Network Computing (VNC) technology, AEi supports customer installations around the world with services ranging from routine diagnostics to process refinement and faultfinding. Support sessions use 128-bit encryption and are only initiated from the customer site as an enhanced security measure and to protect customer data.

According to AEI's Chief Operating Officer Justin Roe, "Building VNC capabilities into our CMAT systems enables us to offer all customers enhanced options for worldwide service to meet their needs for to-the-minute support. Remote diagnostics allow us to quickly resolve service requests. Further, if we find that it is a hardware problem that requires on-site service, we can arrive at the client site with the correct replacement hardware."

"We can also help customers with challenging product line switchovers. The result is that, when using our flexible automation systems for camera module alignment, our customers experience minimal machine down time. This is especially beneficial to customers in high-production environments," concluded Roe.

Using machine vision, AEi's CMAT (Camera Module Assembly and Test) flexible automation stations enable digital camera module OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to produce different models on the same equipment and production lines with minimal changeover requirements. Full-featured digital camera modules are increasingly popular in higher-end cell phones, automotive safety systems, consumer product, and medical and other precision sensing/instrumentation applications. Industry analyst estimates the total world market for camera modules at nearly 800 million units shipped in 2008.
