July 22, 2011 - To reduce complexity for OEM design engineers designing 3G/4G/LTE base stations, MAAM-009320 Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA) performs 3 circuit functions in one RoHS-compliant, 4 mm, 24-Lead PQFN package. It operates from 400-2,700 MHz, and external matching components are used to set center frequency and achieve return loss performance. Analog control is accomplished via single control pin of 0 to +3 V. Other figures include 25.5 dB gain, 3.0 dB noise figure, and 26.5 dB attenuation range.

M/A-COM Technology Solutions Introduces New Analog Control Variable Gain Amplifier

VGA Delivers Wide Frequency Range and High Gain for Cellular Infrastructure

Lowell, MA - M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc. (M/A-COM Tech), a leading supplier of high performance analog semiconductor solutions, introduced today a new Analog Control Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA) for Cellular Infrastructure applications. The MAAM-009320 is designed to lower bill of materials cost and complexity for OEM design engineers who are designing next generation 3G/4G/LTE base stations.

New base station designs have multi-band capabilities but numerous space constraints. The MAAM-009320 delivers higher levels of integration and space savings by performing three circuit functions in a single 4mm PQFN package. The MAAM-009320 has a wide frequency range complimented by high gain and excellent input and output return loss. Packaged in a RoHS* compliant 4mm, 24-Lead PQFN package, the VGA is designed for operation from 400MHz - 2700MHz. External matching components are used to set the center frequency and achieve return loss performance while analog control is accomplished through a single control pin of 0 to +3V.

The table below outlines specific part number performance:

Part Number Gain Noise Figure Attenuation Range OIP3 Current Package
(dB) (dB) (dB) (dBm) (mA)
MAAM-009320 25.5 3.0 26.5 42.0 231 4mm PQFN

"With excellent IP3 for only 231 mA of current, the MAAM-009320 is a great choice for applications requiring gain with a wide attenuation range while maintaining linearity," said Jack Redus, product manager. "The MAAM-009320 balances linearity and noise figure for optimal performance in cellular base station applications."

Production quantities and samples of MAAM-009320 are available from stock. Final datasheets and additional product information can be obtained from the M/A-COM Tech website at www.macomtech.com
