ADDCO® LoMist D from Lubrizol Offers Solution to Fluid Mist Problems Plaguing the Metalworking Industry

CLEVELAND, OH, August 8, 2006 - The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE:LZ) has unveiled ADDCO® LoMist D, an active polymer technology that reduces mist from coolant used in metalworking applications by up to 60%.

Without additive treatment, metalworking coolant easily breaks into small aerosols, generating mist that can provoke allergic reactions or respiratory illnesses, create housekeeping hazards such as slippery floors, work surfaces and machines, and pose a potential fire hazard. After treatment with ADDCO LoMist D, fewer small aerosols form, preventing the fluid from breaking up and floating through the air. It has no adverse impact on production, parts quality or microfinish or on wastewater treatment.

Other benefits of this chemistry are that it:
o Allows longer lasting mist reduction because of shear stability.
o Reduces energy and maintenance costs by decreasing the load on mist collectors.
o Reduces wear and tear on air filtration and exhaust systems.
o Creates cleaner and safer shop environments.
o Is registered under TSCA, EINECS and DSL regulations.

Mist has become a hot regulatory issue in the metalworking industry. The United Kingdom Health and Safety Executive identified metalworking fluids for priority regulatory action. A mandatory permissible exposure limit for mists in the workplace is expected. In the U.S., the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, prompted by the United Auto Workers and others concerned about workplace safety, is expected to follow the U.K.'s lead. In addition, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists has a pending proposal to lower threshold limits for metalworking fluid mists.

In extended field trials, ADDCO LoMist D reduced mist levels by 40% to 60%. Laboratory evaluations as well as field tests at major manufacturing plants showed dramatic reduction of mist and haze. Workers also responded positively to mist reductions and improvements in plant air quality. ADDCO LoMist D can be used in most soluble oils, semi-synthetic fluids and synthetic fluids.

Metalworking fluids are used to cool and lubricate cutting tools. They are sprayed at high pressure onto tools that revolve at high speed, creating an aerosol mist. A conventional solution has involved use of costly filtration equipment. Lubrizol's technology, used in conjunction with systems to reduce mist, is the only practical chemical approach to a total metalworking fluid mist control program.

By using Lubrizol's ADDCO LoMist D, metalworking operations are free to focus on what they do best-fabricating metals to keep our world working.
