Genesis Launches World's First DisplayPort(TM) Direct Drive Monitor Controller Solutions at 2008 International CES

gm580x6 Series Integrates DisplayPort Receiver, Monitor Controller and Multi-standard LCD Panel Timing Controller (TCON) Into Single-chip Solution

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & LAS VEGAS--Jan. 7, 2008--Genesis® Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing and DisplayPort interconnect technologies for flat-panel TVs, monitors, and other consumer display products, today announced the availability of a new family of direct drive monitor controllers featuring the VESA standard DisplayPort input. These devices are being publicly demonstrated at the 2008 International CES at the VESA DisplayPort Pavilion in the Sands Expo and Convention Center Techzone, booth number 71857.

The gm580x6 family includes the gm58026H and gm58066H controller devices that provide highly integrated, cost-effective solutions for DisplayPort entry and mainstream direct drive monitor applications. "Direct Drive" monitors employ DisplayPort and high levels of silicon integration to greatly reduce the complexity of both the LCD monitor itself and the interconnect when compared to conventional monitors using VGA or DVI interfaces. Both are high performance devices that combine a DisplayPort receiver, best-of-class monitor controller features and a multi-standard TCON for LCD panels. The gm580x6 family supports resolutions through WUXGA at 6, 8 or 10-bit input color depths using one, two or four DisplayPort lanes, depending on the application.

"As one of the primary drivers of the DisplayPort standard, Genesis offered the industry's first line of DisplayPort transmitters and receivers and continues to innovate by introducing the industry's first integrated DisplayPort timing controller solutions," said Robert Haefling, Genesis Microchip's senior vice president and general manager of DisplayPort. "The gm580x6 family has garnered significant traction in the industry, being designed in by several of the world's largest LCD panel manufacturers. We believe this cost-effective, high performance solution will drive wide-spread adoption of the direct drive monitor application."

In addition to the features described above, the gm580x6 family provides complete support for DisplayPort content protection (with onboard HDCP key), optional 2-channel audio over the DisplayPort link, keypad support for on/off and brightness controls, green/amber/red LED indicators and support for a Microsoft Vista(TM) compliant MCCS command set. These combine to provide a complete set of monitor features on a single device, using no external crystal or regulator.
