Portable Beam Profiler works with high-power CO2 lasers.

April 21, 2009 - Designed to verify performance and reduce changeover time for industrial parts manufacturers, ModeCheck(TM) enables quantitative measurement and viewing of high-power CW and pulsed lasers in 8-30 µm range with intensities up to 30 W/cm². Industrial solution measures key characteristics of laser beam profile in real-time and stores mode images for later recall and comparison. Over time, user will be able to measure laser degradation and predict and schedule downtime for maintenance.

Ophir-Spiricon Inc. Introduces Low Cost, Portable Industrial Beam Profiler for High Power CO2 Lasers

System Eliminates Mode Burns, Allows for Prediction and Scheduling of Periodic Maintenance

April 6, 2009 - Logan, UT - Ophir-Spiricon, the global leader in precision laser measurement equipment, today announced ModeCheck(TM), the Industrial CO2 Laser Beam Profiler. ModeCheck is a low cost, portable beam profiling system that enables the quantitative measurement and viewing of high power CO2 beams. Designed to verify performance and reduce changeover time for industrial parts manufacturers, the system measures key characteristics of the laser beam profile in real-time and stores mode images for later recall and comparison.

ModeCheck monitors high power CW and pulsed lasers in the 8-30µm range with intensities up to 30 W/cm2. The system reduces the time needed for changeovers between jobs. The user can quickly place the ModeCheck head in front of the laser, then see and measure the beam profile to confirm optimal laser performance. ModeCheck delivers accurate 2D and 3D renderings of the beam profile in real-time. When used regularly, the user can compare measurement changes from the same set-up and make necessary adjustments, keeping the laser output constant for the same job from day-to-day. Over time, the user will be able to measure laser degradation and predict and schedule down-time for maintenance.

"ModeCheck replaces the laborious process of acrylic mode burns, which produce toxic fumes and, at best, rough estimates of beam shape and size," stated Gary Wagner, President of Ophir-Spiricon Inc. "Manufacturers are under intense pressure to maintain quality and produce increasingly customized products. ModeCheck was created for exactly this scenario. It instantly sees and measures the beam, reducing setup times and optimizing laser efficiency."

Pricing and Availability

The ModeCheck Industrial CO2 Beam Analyzer is available now. Prices start at $5,000. OEM pricing is available on request. The ModeCheck data sheet can be downloaded at:
