Miller Adds Blue Lightning(TM) to Dynasty® 200 and Maxstar® 200 TIG Power Sources for Improved HF Arc Starts From 1 to 200 Amps

With the introduction of Blue Lightning, Miller has improved High Frequency AC and DC TIG arc starting on the Maxstar 200 and Dynasty 200, from 200-amp applications to micro-thin, 1-amp applications. Blue Lighting sets optimal parameters based on tungsten diameter, eliminating operator guesswork.

In addition, the Dynasty 200 now has advanced AC waveform capabilities for increased aluminum welding productivity.

The Miller Maxstar 200 DC TIG/Stick (left) and Dynasty 200 AC/DC TIG/Stick now contain Blue Lightning technology for consistent, reliable arc starts from 200 amp applications to 1-amp, micro-thin applications.

Highlights/Key Facts

o Blue Lightning provides reliable, consistent arc starts over the entire output range, from 1 amp (micro-thin applications) to 200 amps.

o Preset parameters for .020- to .125-in. tungsten sizes eliminate operator guesswork.

o Dynasty 200 now contains advanced AC waveforms for tailoring arc preferences when welding aluminum.

o Ideal for portable applications and in precision fabrication, petro/chemical, aerospace, food/beverage, dairy and similar applications.

APPLETON, Wis., October 21, 2008-Miller Electric Mfg. Co. today announced that the Dynasty® 200 AC/DC TIG/Stick and Maxstar® 200 DC TIG/Stick power sources now feature Blue Lightning(TM) technology for consistent, reliable high-frequency arc starting from 200-amp to micro-thin, 1-amp applications. The operator simply enters the chosen tungsten size, from 0.020 in. to 0.125 in., and Blue Lightning sets the optimal starting parameters, eliminating operator guesswork.

In addition, as with the rest of the Dynasty family, the Dynasty 200 now features advanced AC waveforms to optimize arc characteristics for various applications and operator preferences. Depending on the waveform selected-advanced squarewave, soft squarewave, sine wave or triangular wave-users can tailor the arc for such characteristics as a hard, driving arc, a smooth, soft arc with good puddle control and wetting action, or a punch of peak amperage with minimized overall heat input to reduce distortion.

Product Manger Quote

"Optimal starting parameters are based on tungsten size, and previously could require some operator experimentation to achieve the best results. Now, with Blue Lightning, the operator sets the tungsten size and the machine sets the optimal parameters to provide consistent and reliable arc starts from 200 amps all the way down to 1 amp. While this benefits all users, those who perform precision, low-amperage applications will benefit the most."

-John Luck, product manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co.

Additional Information

Both Maxstar and Dynasty models offer DC TIG, Pulsed DC TIG, Stick and Air Carbon Arc Gouging. In addition to offering AC waveforms, the Dynasty provides extended AC balance-from 30 to 99 percent-to control the amount of oxide cleaning and AC frequency control of 20 to 250 Hz to control the width of the arc cone and the arc force.

The Maxstar 200 and Dynasty 200 provide an output amperage range of 1 to 200 amps and feature Miller's Auto-Line(TM) power management technology, allowing them to work from any power source, 115 to 460 V, single- or three-phase.

Their light weight-45 lbs. for the Dynasty 200, 37 lbs. for the Maxstar 200-make them ideal for portable applications, and their versatility has made them favorites in precision fabrication, petro/chemical, aerospace, food/beverage, dairy and other applications.
