FCI's USB+Power and Latch-N-Lok(TM) Cable Assemblies Support Cost-Effective Power Needs

ETTERS, P.A. (August 18, 2008)- FCI, a leading developer of connectors and interconnect
systems, has expanded its offering of cable assembly devices with the introduction of the USB+Power and Latch-N-Lok(TM) cable assemblies. USB+Power and Latch-N-Lok have been
widely used in the point-of-sale device market for several years, and popularity is growing in the sales of control systems, medical instrumentation, test and measurement, and inventory equipment.

"Combining these two proven interconnect standards into one cable eliminates the need for a separate power source and their associated AC outlets," said Leo Ding, Product Manager, FCI. "Adapting USB+Power and Latch-N-Lok cable assemblies is easy and cost-effective. With fewer cables being used, the assemblies lower installation costs, reduce footprint to free up valuable space, and eliminate potential risk of failure."

Designed to address requirements for higher power in devices using USB signaling,
USB+Power adds four power contacts to the interface and provides a total of 5 amps of
additional current-carrying capability. Standard USB devices only carry 1 amp. USB+Power is fully compliant with USB standard 2.0 and offers capabilities that exceed those standards.

Latch-N-Lok is a rugged cable-to-equipment connector interface to connect signals or power, and is designed for user convenience as well as durability. This versatile connector system provides optional integral shielding and grounding for controlling EMI/ESD.

Active latching on the cable plugs of Latch-N-Lok and USB+Power cable assemblies provides positive retention ensuring a secure connection, while keying and color options prevent the mating of incorrect cables.
