ADLINK Releases COM Express® Module with Core(TM) 2 Duo and High End Graphics

Based on Intel's 64-bit Core(TM) 2 Duo processor and GME965 chipset with GMAX3100 graphic core and DirectX 10 support, the Express-MC800 is ADLINK's most advanced Computer-On-Module (COM) for power sensitive applications that require top of the line, high end graphics performance.

Express-MC800

June 3, 2008, Taipei

ADLINK Technology, Inc. (TAIEX:6166), a global provider of trusted embedded products, rolls out the Express-MC800, the newest and highest performing member of its COM family. The Express-MC800's design, measuring just 125 x 95 millimeters, is fully COM Express Type 2 compatible. COM Express modules are highly integrated off-the-shelf building blocks based on PCI Express bus architecture that plug into custom-made, application-specific carrier boards.

Price / Performance Leader

The Express-MC800 is positioned as price performance leader in the area of extreme (graphics) performance. Key application areas will be Medical Diagnostic Equipment and Medical Imaging, Gaming, Industrial Automation, Test and Measurement, Video Preprocessing and Industrial Control. The Express-MC800 will be the first COM Express module that provides a general purpose PCI Express x8 lane multiplexed with its PCI Express Graphics (PEG) lanes. This makes the module well suited for applications in data communication, video acquisition and storage where a growing number of PCI Express x8 and x4 I/O devices are entering the embedded market.

Reduced System Cost and Power Consumption

The Express-MC800's integrated Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 is the first integrated graphics controller capable of offering high end features such as hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L), programmable shader units (up to 128) and Intel® Clear Video Technology. The module's excellent graphics performance avoids the need for an additional high performance discrete graphics controller. This would allow customers to reduce costs considerably and simultaneously provide a significant reduction of the total power budget of their system. In addition to reducing cost and power consumption, the integrated graphics solution also protects your design investment, as it is covered by Intel's embedded production life support of up to seven years.

About the Express-MC800

The Express-MC800 combines a Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU with Intel's Mobile GME965 Express Chipset. The chipset consisting of the GME965GME/ICH8M North- and Southbridge, supports up to 4 GB, dual channel DDR2 667MHz memory on two stacked SODIMM sockets. The Mobile Intel® GME965 Express chipset integrates a Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 that provides CRT, single/dual channel 24-bit LVDS and TV-out (SDTV and HDTV). In addition to the onboard integrated graphics, a PEG x16 slot is available for connection to high end PCI Express x16 graphics chipsets or general purpose x8, x4 or x1 PCI Express devices. The PEG x16 bus can alternatively be used in SDVO mode to connect to DVI, TMDS or TV-out device controllers. The board allows connection of up to five additional PCI Express x1 devices on the ICH8M Southbridge.

Also featured on the module are a single onboard Gigabit Ethernet port and three SATA/300 ports. It has legacy support for a single parallel IDE channel, 32-bit PCI and LPC. The Express-MC800 comes equipped with a AMIBIOS8 supporting many embedded features such as: remote console, CMOS backup, CPU and system monitoring, and watchdog timer.

ADLINK's Full Computer on Module Product Line

ADLINK's complete Computer on Module product family includes ETX® modules for PCI/ISA oriented designs and Computer-on-Modules (COMs) for PCI Express / PCI designs with optional legacy support through LPC. To evaluate or test our modules, prototype boards with ATX form factor are available.

Carrier Board Design and Manufacturing Support

ADLINK provides Schematics, mechanical files, design guides, R&D support, product review service and BIOS customization for companies that are doing their own carrier board design. ADLINK also offers full development and production services for those who wish to outsource their carrier board's design and/or manufacturing.

PICMG COM Express Plug-and-Play Subcommittee

ADLINK currently chairs the PICMG COM Express Design Guide subcommittee. The to-be-released COM Express Plug and Play Design Guide aims to increase the use of COM Express modules by defining a set of carrier design guidelines that enable plug-and-play support and increase compatibility between COM Express modules from various vendors.
