SonicWALL Takes Email Security Offering to the Next Level with New Capabilities in the War Against Spam

Enhanced products join SonicWALL's premium performance E Class line up

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 18 -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNWL) today launched the newest version of its Email Security solution that delivers powerful new protection and management capabilities to help protect organizations from the spam epidemic and keep them safe from inbound and outbound email threats.

Based on the new capabilities of Version 6.0, SonicWALL has added its higher end appliances and software, Email Security 6000 and 8000, to its new E Class line of premium performance solutions designed to provide network and data technology to large networks. The Email Security 6000 and 8000 solutions join SonicWALL's recently-announced Network Security Appliance (NSA) E7500, a 16-way multi core Unified Threat Management security appliance intended for deployment in larger networks, distributed enterprises and data centers.

SonicWALL Email Security 6.0 provides protection against spam, viruses, phishing, regulatory compliance violations, intellectual property leakage, and other email threats for organizations ranging from fewer than 50 employees to 5,000 users and above. Systems are available either as appliances providing pre-hardened SonicWALL operating system security, or as Windows software for enterprises that standardize on hardware in their datacenters. Both appliances and software are high-performance systems based on SonicWALL's proprietary Preemptive Scanning MTA architecture where messages are processed in memory before being written to disk. All systems can be deployed in high-availability redundant configurations with multiple Remote Analyzers and a centralized Control Center for all management, quarantine, LDAP-based user management, and reporting.

Version 6.0 enhancements include the new SonicWALL user interface, effectiveness improvements to stop spam outbreaks, richer reporting, additional user notifications, augmented functionality for large organizations that host or provide managed email security, and an updated, scriptable command line interface for the appliances.

"We purchased a SonicWALL Email Security system recently and immediately upgraded to the SonicWALL Email Security 6.0 beta to take advantage of the interface improvements and, most importantly for us, the ability to batch import user email addresses. We are very pleased with its effectiveness and overall performance," said Mark Stuhr, director of Information Technology at Nolo, the nation's oldest and most respected provider of legal information for consumers and small businesses. "The system is very easy to manage and has significantly reduced the time I and, more importantly, all of my users have to spend on managing spam and related email threats each day. My users, my staff and I are all very pleased with this device."

SonicWALL Email Security Version 6.0 enhancements include:

-- Redesigned User Interface that is the go-forward architecture for all SonicWALL systems, making it easier for customers and partners to learn.

-- Faster Protection from new spam, phishing and virus attacks through the development of a new data chunking system that streamlines delivery of real-time updates to customers every five minutes and through the introduction of advanced image spam and stock ticker spam detection technologies.

-- Richer Reporting that expands the 30+ existing reports with real time system monitoring of email throughput and CPU usage, improved reporting performance and the ability to download all data.

-- User Notifications extend the flexibility of SonicWALL's industry leading end-user controls with improvements to Junk Box summaries, enhanced personal allowed-list management and the introduction of user-action notifications -- all designed to reduce the requirement for IT administrator involvement in day-to-day end user email management.

-- Hosted and Managed Service Provider functionality additions enable organizations to deliver comprehensive enterprise-grade inbound/outbound email security to multiple customers. Enhancements in 6.0 include User Import, Per-Domain Reporting, and Per-Domain DHA protection.

-- Appliance Management enhancements include Safemode, which adds redundancy for firmware recovery; RAID monitoring and repair; a Command Line Interface which provides scriptable control, and a host of optional commands and support for SNMP-based system monitoring.

"The SonicWALL Email Security 6000 and 8000 systems and our enterprise software solutions have proven themselves in enterprises with over 100,000 users where individual installations process over 100 million messages per day," stated Gleb Budman, Senior Director of Product Management at SonicWALL. "Version 6.0 delivers a customer driven group of enhancements that not only make the system more effective, they improve monitoring, reporting, scalability, and maintenance while simplifying the overall usability of the system for the IT staff and for end users."

SonicWALL Email Security Version 6.0 is available immediately.
