Airborne Laser Scanner utilizes waveform digitizing.

May 24, 2007 - With 200 kHz measurement rate and ±2 cm accuracy, LMS-Q560 offers access to detailed target parameters by digitizing echo signal online during data acquisition and through off-line waveform analysis. Class 1 eye-safety allows operation at any altitude, and opto-mechanical beam scanning provides linear, unidirectional, and parallel scan lines. Able to integrate with GPS and INS systems, solution makes use of time-of-flight distance measurement principle with nanosecond IR pulses.

Riegl Launches First Waveform Digitizing Airborne Laser

RIEGL announces the launch of a new airborne laser scanner, the LMS-Q560. This is a revolutionary new laser scanner incorporating waveform digitizing of the return laser pulses. The RIEGL LMS-Q560 gives access to the detailed target parameters by digitizing the echo signal online during data acquisition, and subsequently through off-line waveform analysis. This method is especially valuable when dealing with difficult survey tasks, such as canopy height investigation or target classification. The operational parameters of the RIEGL LMS-Q560 can be configured to cover a wide field of applications. Comprehensive interface features support smooth integration of the instrument into complete airborne acquisition systems.

The RIEGL LMS-Q560 key features:
o Waveform analysis and recording of unlimited target returns
o High measurement rate of up to 200 kHz
o High range accuracy of up to +-2cm
o Class 1 eye-safety allows operation at any altitude
o Compact and rugged design with single power supply
o Intelligent interface allows smooth integration with GPS and INS systems

The LMS-Q560 instrument makes use of the time-of-flight distance measurement principle with nanosecond infrared pulses, and fast opto-mechanical beam scanning providing absolutely linear, unidirectional and parallel scan lines. The instrument is extremely rugged, therefore ideally suited for the installation on aircraft. Also, it is compact and lightweight enough to be installed in small single-engine planes, helicopters or ultra-light planes. The instrument needs only a single voltage power supply and provides online monitoring data while logging the precisely time-stamped and digitized echo signal data to the rugged RIEGL Data Recorder DR560.
