Salesforce.com Announces Smashforce for Building Mash-Up Applications

New Smashforce AJAX Toolkit Enables Enterprise Developers to Mix Their Favorite Internet Services, Such as Google Maps, Right Into Their Multiforce Applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 22 -- Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM), the technology and market leader in on-demand customer relationship management (CRM), today announced the availability of the AJAX Toolkit for Sforce. Leveraging the same technology combination including Javascript, XML and Web services behind Google's Maps service, Smashforce enables the seamless integration of functionality from popular consumer Internet services with Multiforce- and Sforce-based enterprise applications. Available immediately for free download in beta at www.sforce.com, final release of the toolkit is planned for salesforce.com's Dreamforce '05 User and Developer Conference taking place September 11-14, 2005 in San Francisco.

The transition of popular Web sites from simple web pages into programmable, "remixable" platforms has brought new innovation to the consumer Internet, as evidenced by the popularity of Google's Maps service and Yahoo's Flickr. With the new Smashforce AJAX (Asynchronous Java and XML) toolkit, salesforce.com developers can now bring the same innovation to their companies' development projects, creating new enterprise applications that have the sophistication and innovation previously seen only in consumer contexts. Similarly, enterprise developers can use the toolkit to easily combine salesforce.com with mapping, telephony and other Internet services, using AJAX to bring compelling new functionality to their CRM deployments with a fraction of the effort or complexity of client/server application platforms.

"The new Smashforce AJAX Toolkit makes it easy to incorporate all the incredible innovation that is occurring on the Internet today into salesforce.com deployments," said Tien Tzuo, senior vice-president of platform products at salesforce.com. "Developers who want to build enterprise applications with the power of AJAX now have a simple and powerful toolkit to get them started. This toolkit makes the advantages of choosing Multiforce over traditional client/server platforms for new projects even clearer."

Using the toolkit, companies can create new "mash-ups" with salesforce.com that use Google Maps to show all of their previous day's leads directly on a map, leverage Skype's VOIP service to allow users to dial and talk with their contacts, or create advanced customizations for their forms and workflows.

"We share salesforce.com's belief that the combination of Internet-based platforms and services creates an unbeatable alternative to traditional software," said Eric Berridge, Principal of Blue Wolf Group. "The AJAX Toolkit brings the innovation, creativity and success we've seen in consumer services to our salesforce.com-based products and service engagements."

Developers interested in using the toolkit and the new Mutliforce on-demand operating system, Sforce on-demand integration platform, and Customforce on-demand customization tool available as part of the Summer '05 release from salesforce.com can sign up for a free Developer Edition at http://sforce.com .
