Roland Introduces New 3D Laser Scanner

The LPX-600 is the most automated 3D scanning system ever produced.

LAKE FOREST, CA. December 1, 2005 Roland Advanced Solutions Division (ASD) today introduced the LPX-600 desktop 3D laser scanner. With the touch of a button, the LPX-600 samples an object, scans it, and automatically generates a detailed model with a watertight surface.

The LPX-600 comes complete with LPX EZ Studio reverse engineering software. This integrated hardware/software system is an ideal 3D capture solution for all popular CAD/CAM and animation applications. It allows designers to capture complex data for hand-held consumer products, blister package design, hand-sculpted characters for feature animation, and face models for anaplastologists.

"The LPX-600 makes it incredibly fast and easy to generate precise 3D models," said David Olson, Roland ASD marketing manager. "It will save designers hours of manual reverse engineering work."

The LPX-600 can scan objects up to 16 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter. It uses an advanced non-contact laser sensor to quickly generate precise models with a 0.008 inch scanning resolution. The combination of precision laser optics and motion control within a rigid enclosure lets the LPX-600 produce high quality scans with minimal surface noise.

LPX EZ Studio
Compatible with all popular CAD/CAM programs, bundled LPX EZ Studio software streamlines the 3D scan and data editing process. LPX EZ Studio's powerful scan/align/merge function lets engineers generate watertight mesh surface models with the touch of a button. The software supports a wide range of data output formats, including STL, PIX and 3DM. STL files are used by the industry's most popular rapid prototyping systems, including those manufactured by Roland, 3D Systems, Stratasys, Z-Corp and Solidscape.

The LPX-600, with bundled LPX EZ Studio software, is shipping now with a list price of $11,995. Leasing is available on all Roland products.
