Hydraulic Institute and Pump Systems Matter Announce Dates for the Introduction to Mechanical Seals 4-Part Webinar Series



Parsippany, NJ, -- The Hydraulic Institute and Pump Systems Matter, in collaboration with the Fluid Sealing Association, have announced the first Introduction to Mechanical Seals webinar series of 2014.  The series will begin on Thursday, March 27 and will continue April 1, April 3, and April 8.



Participants will be led by and have access to industry-leading experts in a non-commercial educational forum.  Webinar participants also receive four professional development hour (PDH) credits upon completion of the series.



The following is a schedule for the upcoming Mechanical Seals Webinar Series:



Session 1: March 27, 2014, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Types & Operating Principles.

Presenter: Frank Huntington, John Crane, Inc.

The opening session will cover how mechanical seals work and gives an overview of the most common seal types.  The objectives are to give participants a good understanding of how leakage, friction and wear of the materials interact and why many different seal types are used in pumps, agitators, and compressors.



Session 2: April 1, 2014, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Construction and Design.

Presenter: Mike Huebner, Flowserve Corporation

Different design features used in common seals are discussed in session 2.  This session will explain the strengths and weaknesses of various design options and the impact of design features on seal performance.  Mike will discuss seal faces, springs, seal glands, and more.



Session 3: April 3, 2014, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Installation, Connections, & Commissioning.

Presenter: Kevin McArthur, A.W. Chesterton Company

Session 3 covers mechanical seals used in rotary equipment, basic preparation and standards as well as support system piping plans that result in longer seal life.



Session 4: April 8, 2014, 1:00-2:00pm EDT - Seal Environment and Failure Analysis.

Presenter: Kevin McArthur, A.W. Chesterton Company

The final session will cover how to improve material selection, environmental controls, and installation and operating procedures.
