Tyco Electronics and Hirose Electric Co., Ltd. today announced a second-source agreement under which Tyco Electronics will have the right to manufacture, market, and sell worldwide the Hirose IT3 mezzanine connector system under the Tyco Electronics brand name of STRADA MZConn3 connector system.

The two companies will work cooperatively to deliver intermateable, electrically and mechanically interchangeable products to the market as quickly as possible by sharing design and manufacturing processes. Tooled versions of the product from Tyco Electronics are expected to be available in mid 2009. This pairing of product technology and manufacturing capabilities will offer customers a combination of innovation, performance, and service from two industry leaders.

Tyco Electronics and Hirose are world-class connector manufacturers with global design and manufacturing footprints. The companies are leaders in the connector industry in R&D spending, and employ customer-focused, customer-driven product design and development processes that enable solutions that meet performance, quality, and cost expectations.

The IT3 mezzanine connector system from Hirose Electric features a three-piece approach to parallel board stacking applications. The system consists of a low profile receptacle which has solderballs to allow for ease of printed circuit board assembly processing. The stack height between two printed circuit boards is achieved by use of an interposer module which mates to two keyed receptacles that have been previously attached to the PCBs. The IT3 product offers high signal density coupled with excellent high speed electrical performance. The IT3 connector system is currently available from Hirose in 100-position, 200-position, and 300-position modules with a range of stack heights.
