Intended for technical and sales/marketing professionals new to industry or those seeking refresher, short course will present introduction as well as advanced concepts in formulation, application, and end-uses of thermoset resin technologies. Topics will be presented by thermoset industry experts, but no advanced knowledge is required.

TRFA Offers Additives 101 Short Course Before 2013 Annual Meeting



Glen Ellyn, IL — The Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) will offer the Additives 101 Short Course as a prelude to its Annual Meeting, September 29-October 1 at the Hyatt Regency Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. The short course will present both an introduction and advanced concepts in the formulation, application and end-uses of thermoset resin technologies. Registration is for both is now open via the association’s website at www.trfa.org. Additives 101 offers a significant opportunity to leverage the benefits of attendance at the TRFA Annual Meeting and/or to provide important training in thermoset resin technology for new employees.



The short course will provide an introduction and overview of the various types of additives used in the creation of thermosets including their chemistry, why they work in a thermoset, applications and troubleshooting. Once again the topics will be presented by some of the top experts in the thermoset industry. The course is intended for technical and sales/marketing professionals new to the industry, as well as those seeking a refresher. A basic chemistry background will be assumed - no other advanced knowledge is required. Specific presentations include the following: Additive Technology for Use in Defoaming, Deaerating and Surface Control (Christopher Howard, Evonik Industries, Coating Additives); Color Tints (Hershel Wehrjen, Elementis); Aerosil Thickening Agents (Maria Nargiello, Evonik); Bentone Clays and Organic Thickeners (Tony Hennessy, Elementis); Functional Pigments for Thermosets (Sal LaRosa, NYCO); Selecting Carbon Black for Color, Conductivity and UV Stability in Thermosets (Bill Masterson, Cabot Corporation); and Corrosion Theory and the Protection of Metal (Nathan Kofira, Halox).



This comprehensive course is not available anywhere else and is open to TRFA members and non-members.
