SAE International Announces 2011 Powertrain Electric Motors Symposium- 16 November, in Shanghai

Press release date: July 13, 2011

WARRENDALE, Pa., --With electric motor innovation and development increasing significantly worldwide, the SAE International 2011 Powertrain Electric Motors Symposium, to be held 16 November 2011 in Shanghai, will provide the latest knowledge and insights in the field and prepare decision-makers at suppliers and OEMs to consider and balance these investment opportunities and risks. Buoyed by R&D funding from the public sector, some automakers are designing, developing, and producing their traction motors in-house, rather than purchasing off-the-shelf machines that can compromise the efficiencies of the propulsion system. This new trend has a considerable impact on the supply chain, with OEMs forming new relationships with suppliers for products they have never purchased directly before. This also means that these new suppliers, and the OEMs, will need to create specifications for certification and qualification. Designed to offer a comprehensive overview of the latest innovations in the vehicle powertrain electric traction motor industry, the Symposium will address market growth projections, requirements and cost structures for three varieties of electric traction motors--the permanent magnet motor, the induction motor and the switch reluctance motor. Through presentations and discussion panels at the Symposium, experts will offer insight on the actions of the industry's major players and their effect on the world marketplace. Attendees will also have the opportunity to mingle with peers in companies leading the development of electric traction motors from all over the world, and especially Asia. The SAE International 2011 Powertrain Electric Motors Symposium directly follows the SAE International 2011 Vehicle Battery Summit, November 14-15, 2011 in Shanghai. Designed to integrate the most recent battery innovations with lessons learned in recent EV/PHEV commercialization efforts, this year's Summit will build significantly on the knowledge presented at last year's highly successful event.
