Portwell Announces New Mini-ITX Embedded System Series with Flexible Expansion Design

FREMONT, CA. -- American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the Industrial PC (IPC) market and a Premier member of the Intel® Intelligent Systems Alliance, announces WADE-8015 embedded system product family, a versatile new Mini-ITX embedded board based system series utilizing the 4th generation Intel® Core™ i7/i5/i3 processors. WADE-8015’s innovative design makes it easy to integrate with a variety of form factors and provides flexible expansion for PCIe, PCI and ISA support. It is available in 35W/45W low power consumption CPU solutions for energy saving and improved system thermal management in a wide range of applications. The WADE-8015 system series provides four solutions: Shoebox WEBS-8015S; Desktop WEBS-8015D; 2U Rack Mount WEBS-80152U; and Fan-less WEBS-3583.
The Portwell WADE-8015 embedded system product family incorporates a minor design modification via the expansion board to fulfill the requirement for a legacy add-on slot or I/O.
Shoebox WEBS-8015S
This configuration provides the best performance for supporting high-end graphic cards. It features the 4th generation Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processors and Intel Q87 chipset; 2 x DDR3 1600/1333MHz support for dual channel up to 8 GB; 3 x 2.5½ HDD and 1 slim-type CD-ROM; expansion is achieved via a choice of (a) PCIe x16, 2 x PCIe x4 and Mini-PCIe or (b) PCIe x16, 2 x PCI, Mini-PCI (optional by project) or (c) PCIe x16, 2 x ISA, Mini-PCIe (optional by project); VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI; 2 x GbE; 4 x USB 3.0; 1 x RS232/422/485 and 1 x RS232; and a compact 236 (W) x 340 (D) x 175 (H) mm footprint. Shoebox WEBS-8015S is the ideal choice for gaming, medical and surveillance applications.
Desktop WEBS-8015D
This configuration provides a compact footprint with economical power consumption for energy and cost savings. It features the 4th generation Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processors and Intel Q87 chipset; 2 x DDR3 1600/1333MHz support for dual channel up to 8 GB; 1 x 3.5½ drive; expansion is achieved via PCIe x16 and Mini-PCIe; VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI; 2 x GbE; 4 x USB 3.0; 1 x RS232/422/485 and 1 x RS232; and a compact 251 (W) x 221.8 (D) x 86.3 (H) mm footprint. Desktop WEBS-8015D is the ideal choice for automation, medical and digital signage applications.
2U Rack Mount WEBS-80152U
This configuration provides a rack mount solution capable of supporting ATX and uATX. It features the 4th generation Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processors and Intel Q87 chipset; 2 x DDR3 1600/1333MHz support for dual channel up to 8 GB; 2 x Hot-Swap 3.5½ HDD, 1 x slim type CD-ROM; expansion is achieved via a choice of (a) PCIe x16, 2 x PCIe x4 and Mini-PCIe or (b) PCIe x16, PCIe x4, 2 x PCI and Mini-PCI or (c) PCIe x16, 2 x ISA, Mini-PCIe (optional by project); VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI; 2 x GbE; 4 x USB 3.0; 1 x RS232/422/485 and 1 x RS232; and a standard 2U footprint measuring 482 (W) x 429.2 (D) x 88.6 (H) mm. The Portwell WEBS-80152U 2U rack mount system is the ideal choice for military, network communication and surveillance applications.
Fan-less WEBS-3583
This configuration provides high reliability and mean time between failures (MTBF) with accessible storage and add-on slots for most I/Os. It features the 4th generation Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processors and Intel Q87 chipset; 2 x DDR3 1600/1333MHz support for dual channel up to 8 GB; 1 x 2.5½ drive; expansion is achieved via a choice of (a) 2 x PCIe x1 and Mini-PCIe or (b) PCIe x1, PCI, and Mini-PCI; VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI; 2 x GbE; 4 x USB 3.0, 4 x USB 2.0; 1 x RS232/422/485 and 1 x RS232; and a compact 253 (W) x 190 (D) x 115 (H) mm footprint. Fan-less WEBS-3583 provides the reliability required for applications in the automation, medical and digital signage markets.
Cost Effective and Flexible Design
According to Robert Feng, product marketing manager at American Portwell Technology, one of the main benefits of the new WADE-8015 embedded system family is its cost effectiveness in shortening the development schedule and its flexibility to support a variety of product solutions via the same embedded board. “We designed the WADE-8015 embedded system series to provide expansion flexibility for the Mini-ITX form factor to support the volume of expansion slots of a FlexATX or uATX in order to obtain the legacy signals required by some specific applications,” Feng says. “The WADE-8015 expandable board design provides versatile system solutions that fulfill different market requirements with backward availability for ISA and PCI expansions.”

Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology’s vice president of product marketing, points out the flexibility of the WADE-8015 expansion board enables customers to simplify their operation and inventory efforts by offering various product solutions built with one and the same board. “In addition,” Shen says, “customers who need ISA and PCI support can achieve that with Intel’s latest Core processing performance and some minor modification to the board and still maintain the cost effectiveness of a short development schedule. Not only that,” Shen continues, “but our customers also benefit from the peace of mind they get from the long life cycle support inherent with every Portwell product.”
