Perma-Beads are specifically designed with unique shape and surface properties which allow for effective and efficient removal of solid debris.

Surface Properties:

o Smooth Ellipsoid Shape creates large spaces between Perma-Beads to trap large quantities of debris and easily refluidizes during backwash for low maintenance.

o No Flat or Porous Surfaces prevent adhesion and bonding between Perma-Beads which inhibits channeling, clogging and compaction of filtration media. This allows the use of sand filters in organically loaded systems without issues of caking and short-circuiting.

o Hard and Slippery Perma-Beads prevent bacteria from etching into the surface as well as well as allow for even the stickiest waste to be scrubbed off upon backwash. This durable media never needs to be replaced and is easily disinfected with chlorine or muriatic acid.

o High Surface Area of 4,520 sq. ft. per cu. ft. provides sufficient surface area for supplemental biological filtration in fish systems. As Perma-Beads age, thin layers of nitrifying bacteria cover the beads which help to remove even the smallest suspended particles.

Existing sand filters are easily converted to Perma-Beads with minimal effort and no equipment or plumbing changes by simply removing the sand and filling with the appropriate amount of Perma-Beads.
