People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently announced the appointment of Gordon Gillerman as chief of the Standards Services Division (SSD) within NIST's Technology Services (TS) operating unit.
Amply experienced in working with federal agencies on standards and conformity assessment issues, Mr. Gillerman will continue to advance the mission of both SSD and TS; he also will facilitate NIST's coordination role in national standards, as foreseen under the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act (NTTAA).

Formerly conformity assessment advisor for Homeland Security at NIST, Mr. Gillerman is also the public sector co-chair of the American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) Homeland Security Standards Panel.

Through his experiences in both the interagency community and in the private sector, Mr. Gillerman has become adept at engaging a full range of government, private non-profit, and for-profit organizations with specific interests in standards policy issues.

His work to enhance programs and initiatives in conformity assessment for electronics recycling, water conservation, import and toy safety, electrical medical devices, and body armor is widely praised by staffs of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and National Institute of Justice (NIJ).
