ANSI member and audited designator the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recently hired Karen Berard-Reed as the senior project manager for the association’s public education division. She will be responsible for high-risk outreach public education efforts carried out by NFPA, which include special programs targeted toward the young, elderly, and individuals in impoverished areas.

Prior to joining NFPA, Ms. Berard-Reed worked at Rhode Island College as an assistant professor of health education and as a health education program coordinator. She also served as a spokesperson for the Center to Prevent Youth Violence, a role she will continue to carry out while working at NFPA. She received her bachelor’s of science degree in health education and her master’s degree in education from Rhode Island College and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in education in a joint Rhode Island College-University of Rhode Island program.

NFPA is a worldwide leader in fire, electrical, building, and life safety with a mission to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.
